The self-assessment test that I took this week was designed for me to get a general idea of what areas I feel strongest in and what areas I feel need work. (Bethel University, 2014) I feel that this assessment test was a good idea for me. This test made me think about skills and characteristics that I would have not thought of as having an effect on my success otherwise. I chose my ratings very honestly, and I see that I need to work on many things in order to ensure my success in this program.

Mathematics is by far my biggest weakness. I have never been good at math. I do remember in our orientation the topic of math was discussed, and my fears were eased a little. The speaker made me feel that the math studied in this program is

(Bethel University, 2014) I read every night before I go to sleep, and I will continue to do so. When I read for pleasure I make use of the dictionary. If I come across a word that I do not know the meaning of I highlight it which brings up the dictionary. When I am able to decipher the meaning of a word with in the text I still look up the word for more clarification. I think that improving my writing will be very helpful in my day to day life and professionally. I feel that how you present yourself through speech and the written word says a lot about you as a person. For example, if you are filling out a resume for a potential job you would want the potential employer to see you as a professional person that is capable of fulfilling the duties of the job. (Maxwell, 2016)

In conclusion, I plan to follow all the tips given to me from Bethel University, conduct my own research about improving communication skills and apply them not just through school and work, but also in my day to day life as well. As stated in Unit 2, “Good writers aren’t born - they’re made.” (Bethel University, 2014 p. 9) I want to make myself become a good writer. I want my peers and professional acquaintances to view me as an educated competent

(Bethel University, 2014) The guidelines of APA style help to achieve a clear and proper display of writing by organizing information. (American Psychological Association, 2016) APA style also ensures that any references that are used to gather information are given proper credit with in text citations and a reference list. (Bethel University, 2014) The reference list also provides the reader with the means to look up the information used for research for themselves.

Having been out of school for a few years, using APA style in a consistent manner is going to be a challenge for me because it has not been a part of my regular routine. I have to remember to use in text citations immediately after referring to my reading or research. (Bethel University, 2014) It is also challenging for me to properly format my reference list.

Advantages of using APA format is that it will help me to improve my writing skills. APA style will also help me to ensure that I do not accidentally commit academic dishonesty by referencing my sources. My work will be better organized and uniform which will make it easier to read. (Bethel University, 2014) I will be able to show that I understand the subject matter being discussed in my writing by using APA style. (Bethel University,

    24. You use appropriate language, avoiding wordiness, while giving the reader all necessary information in strict APA style. I think I would have somewhat trouble with this one because In the past when I was here APA style confused me a lot when it came down to reference. Prior to enrolling in this course, I have not really taken any class that was strict about citing and referencing sources in APA format. It has been a challenge for me, but through feedback from my instructors I have been able to make headway. Another weakness I see in myself is posting my assignments at the 11th hour. One of my strengths is my willingness to learn new things and this class has afforded me that. Through accredited websites, and reading Masters, I have been exposed to new information I never once new.…

I think the main importance to learn and utilize APA formatting and in-text citation is to credit others work. Authors, writers, and journalist I believe should always receive credit for what they publish. Properly writing papers and crediting others should be one of the most important procedures to take when writing a proper paper. Bethel University is teaching all their students that you should always credit your work and never take credit for something that you didn't personally publish and or write. As a Bethel student, you will get the hang of always citing your work and writing references.…
