In this fast paced, ever changing culture we live in today, paradigm shifts are common in every aspect of life. There are paradigm shifts in how we conduct business, in education, in science, in biology, in history, in society, in religion, in everyday life, and in our government especially under the current administration. At the beginning of this class, my attention was quickly drawn to our student guide which used the word change in regards to my personal worldview. Immediately, I was not receptive to the word change because I was, and still is confident that my worldview is that of a Christian. Jesus Christ is my God, my Lord and Savior, the ruler, author and finisher of my faith and that will never change no matter what, even in the fear of persecution and death. However, after four weeks of reading and rereading, and rereading the textbooks provided, I choose to not use the word change, because it is too strong of a word for me to accept when it comes to my faith in Christ. But, I would rather use the word modify, or adjust my thinking where I saw correction or a clearer understanding of a particular subject was needed. For example, the subject of general revelation. My understanding of general revelation was lacking in that it was limited thus minimizing the importance of it. My main focus and value was placed more so on special revelation because there was salvation in special revelation and not in general revelation. Therefore, my opinion of general revelation has not been changed but has been enhanced by the readings and instruction received in this class. Let’s just say my eyes have been opened to see how short-sighted I was, and now I have a greater appreciation for general revelation from a greater understanding. Enlightenment is an unction of the Holy Spirit and he builds the believer up to be a spiritual house acceptable to God by Jesus Christ (1Pet 2:5). He also does it for the perfecting of the believer and as the believer is perfected, the body of Christ is edified and ministry bears fruit from its labor (Eph 4:12). Another eye opener was my understanding of absolute truth and that there were no absolute truths in the world’s system. Somewhere, I read that only a fool believes there are no absolute truths. Needless to say, I was offended by that and was ready to go to war, but “He that is in me is greater than he that is in the world” (1Joh 4:4). After He calmed me down, He enlightened me to a clearer understanding of absolute …show more content…
Keeping in mind, this is not changing, I am just cleaning it up a little bit. As to my example of a paradigm in the secular world, I would like to use the government’s paradigm shifting on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” ban on gay and lesbians in the military. After seventeen years of denying gays and lesbian military personnel to openly declare themselves, the law prohibiting from serving was changed and today men and women regardless of who they are as individuals can openly service in every branch of the military. Another paradigm change in the Armed Forces was women in combat. For decades women could not serve as combatants, but today, the paradigm that kept them from being on the front lines as combatants has changed. Women serve alongside their male comrades in arms in hazard duty and combat
