My Strengths And Weaknesses Of Interviewing

Interview Analysis The mock interview assignment really helped me identify different strengths and weaknesses in interviewing. This document will be a discussion of my mock interview. I will discuss my strengths during the interview as well as my faults and what I will do in the future to adjust those. I will apply what I learned in this experience to interviews in the future.
Perhaps one of the easiest weaknesses to identify in my interview was in my appearance, specifically my hat I forgot to remove my flat cap during the interview. Although it is more formal than a ports hat or beanie it is very important to keep eye contact with the interviewer. Consequently, as soon as I entered the office the interview started and I felt I did well with the introduction portion of the interview asking everyone in the office how their days were going and telling them to have a good day as I left. I prepared extensively for this interview, but as soon as soon as the questions came I encountered a few different mistakes the biggest one was being noticeably nervous when answering some questions and I began shaking my leg. The easiest way I can think to fix that is possibly listening to music before the interview to get me in the right state of mind. I needed to also go in to a little more detail when addressing some of the questions and a little less for others.

For example when asked what my long terms are, I got a little too specific when naming my dream job. The interviewer discussed that instead of doing this I could have discussed gradually moving up through the company. One other weakness that I was already aware of during the interview was my organizational skills. I was not asked to name of my strengths and weaknesses to the interviewer however, I felt it necessary to discuss this and tell her what I am doing to eliminate it. I discussed having a calendar and scheduling things in advance and also how I now organize videos I am editing. The introduction of a weakness could also be considered strength because it shows that you are not giving a generic answer to the question. Some of my strengths I showed throughout the interview included discussing my experience working in television as well as newspaper. Amiability was also a good thing about the interview. When asked if I have missed any deadlines I responded with a philosophy I try and live my life by; both as a musician and communications student. I discussed my practice doesn’t make perfect it makes permanent philosophy in which the interviewer really enjoyed because it asserted my self motivation and reliability, which is essential in the job I applied for as a editor for a news station. Other strengths expressed to me by the interviewer included discussing school and work projects because I at times these can be more creative than simply just using past work experience. Now having said that, I will work on improving by staying calm and not getting as nervous. While I still have things I need to work on I am aware of what needs improvement. Some of those things could be as simple as removing a hat before the interview starts while others will take a lot more attention to detail to fix. Quite possibly the hardest thing to improve would be the anxiety of interviewing and being noticeably nervous during the interview. To improve that I must

Being reluctant to improvise could be a strength for me by my patients knowing that I will stick to the books and I would not do or try anything I was not comfortable with doing. Having the need to have constant acknowledgment is a strength in itself. I will always be trying harder and looking for that recognition from my superiors. Concerning the fact that I neglect my own needs, I will never have my doctors question my priorities because they will already know that I will be doing everything I possibly can. Having weaknesses isn’t always a negative in my case because this will only push me to be better and work…

For this assignment, I interviewed Felicia Low, a Program Advisor at the School of Public Health. This interview taught me a lot about myself and my interpersonal communication skills when it comes to communication on a one-on-one basis. Prior to the interview, I was a bit nervous since I did not know Mrs. Low personally and never communicated with her face-to-face. I prepared to conduct the interview in a way that it would feel like a normal conversation and not a regular interview. For example, I would not always say things from the interview questions that I prepared, I would sometimes ask a question on piece of information that she would share.…

Final Field Project For this assignment, I chose to interview my boyfriend Michael Hook. Throughout the time we have dated, he has always been someone I’ve admired and continuously pushes me to become a better person in all aspects. I wanted to interview him because the story of his company, to me, is pretty commendable and an interesting topic to discuss. Considering we have been dating for over four years, there was no research needed to prepare for this topic; we have discussed his job various times. For the opening, I began by thanking him for agreeing to participate in the interview and taking the time to answer the questions fully and to the best of his knowledge.…

Despite my discomfort, I think I did a good job maintaining an open posture throughout the interview. A major personal discovery I made was that I tend to be expressive in my face. I noticed that I was doing pressing my lips together and at some points my eyes widened. This was namely due to the uncomfortable areas of the interview such as Betty beginning to sing and the moments when she was highly upset. During those points of the interview, I felt as if I kind of lost some control over the flow of the interview.…

This is why it is important for self-efficacy to remain high for recovering addicts. One’s commitment to abstinence is a strong predictor for motivation in the reductions of drug and alcohol use. I thought that during the interview I would have keep thinking about the skills I need to use instead focusing in on what was most important, which was Alex and what he said to say. During the interview, skills such as open- and closed-end questions, furthering responses using prompts and reflecting content seemed to be second nature. Instead of making sure that I was using a certain skill, I just went with the flow of the conversation. The challenging part of the interview was that I was afraid I wasn’t using a good variety of skills. I noticed that I was often giving Alex multiple verbal and nonverbal prompts as well as reflecting content.…

Mock Interview Reflection The mock interview was closely related to the topics covered in the readings and in class. Getting practice using the techniques we have been learning in real time, with a real person, made the content more concrete.
