For this assignment, I chose to interview my boyfriend Michael Hook. Throughout the time we have dated, he has always been someone I’ve admired and continuously pushes me to become a better person in all aspects. I wanted to interview him because the story of his company, to me, is pretty commendable and an interesting topic to discuss. Considering we have been dating for over four years, there was no research needed to prepare for this topic; we have discussed his job various times. For the opening, I began by thanking him for agreeing to participate in the interview and taking the time to answer the questions fully and to the best of his knowledge. I also stressed that it is important that we stay on topic and focus on the assignment because there is a great possibility we will stray away from the interview. I explained the overall agenda and how it was going to be set up. We were going to split the interview up into four-day-sessions with a specified topic for each interview. My strengths are that I am able to naturally establish rapport. I try to connect with my interviewees and establish an open setting for honest communication. I also implement effective nonverbal communication and listening skills. I make certain that my body language shows I am actively listening and interested in what they’re saying. Also, I repeat what they say and am able to probe on the spot. A weakness of mine is when I get nervous, I tend to confuse my words and not clearly state my meaning. Also, I start speaking faster than normal, also conveying an unclear message. In the future, I hope to work on my weaknesses, and not allow nervousness to alter the credibility of my message. I may be confident in what I am saying, but it does not show if my words are jumbled or I am speaking too
