Technology can have many pros and cons in life. It can simplify your life and yet make it even more complicated than it actually is. Anywhere you go, you see someone with some piece of technology in their hands from cell phones, to tablets, and even computers. In today’s society there is not only technology in office buildings, but today more and more schools are changing to all laptops and less paper or more likely known as one to one learning or blended learning. The schools that are changing to one to one learning are distancing themselves from others and taking on a new path to succeed. In the excerpt Walden by Henry David Thoreau it says “ that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours” (Thoreau 389). What Walden is trying to say is that those who follow the steps to achieve will have an outcome that shows success. It shows me how much time is productive or wasted through cell phones, and computers. In my personal experience I could see whether or not I could take time out of my life without using a source of technology. I never realized how much I used my cell phone. From the time I go to bed with my alarm clock set for six in the morning to using it to communicate with friends, but not just my cell phone the computer too. Hedy Lamar, a beautiful actress, proposed the idea of frequency hopping, after considering how a piano can jump from one note to the next. She wondered if radio signals could duplicate this behavior. After proving that her idea could work, she told the navy about how it could help their communications in the war. They rejected the idea and suggested that she collect war bonds, but years later the invention made a breakthrough, and Hedy Lamar never accepted anything for her accomplishment. Thoreau wishes for a man to have a simple life. He wants them to desire only what is needed to live a life without its extra indulgences. Thoreau alleges that man should not involve himself in so many affairs, but should instead, “let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand; instead of a million count half a dozen” (277). Through this excerpt, Thoreau expresses the desire people should feel for a simple life. Instead of living life involving themselves with unnecessary matters, they should try to minimize it by only doing the essential.…

The passages in Thoreau’s Walden that include “Where I lived and what I lived for”, indicate his appreciation and awe for the natural beauty in front of him. Example #1: The first example of his appreciation of nature is when Thoreau states, “whenever I looked out on the pond it impressed me like a tarn high up on the side lakes, and, as the sun arose...”. He is saying how nice it was to look out into the pond as the sun was rising and realizing how nice the mist from the pond looked and how the little ripples were a great little movement in the pond.…

Henry David Thoreau wrote in a time of change and ages past. Every era is opposed to the ones preceding and succeeding itself, but the Romantics were truly a group who hearkened to an old tune; one of integrated civilization and nature in medieval times. When he wrote Walden, Thoreau wrote about his own experiences in the natural world and how it changed him. In his writing, Thoreau explains why one should live deliberately. He actively argues to convince the reader to do so.…

As a different quest to find a utopia within nature, in Thoreau’s Walden, Thoreau retreats into nature in an effort to separate himself from society and to find a greater sense of truth within himself by living simply and ethically. Unlike Hawthorne’s attempt at building a utopia, Thoreau’s Walden has grounds in reality. Although a sense of mysticism still works through in his search for God within nature, the experiment at Walden finds more success than Blithedale but still ultimately ends in failure. Overall, Walden is an experiment on self-reliance and a look into the simplicity of all things in nature and individualism. Believing that society has come to institutionalize life and absorb the individual, Thoreau believes that each man must…

“to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived” This excerpt from “Walden” by Henry David Thoreau speaks of a life unlived when it's nearing too late. Thoreau writes about living every day as if it were your last, taking in every chance to enrich and define yourself. How pursuing even the most simple of passions could prove to be worthwhile. I agree in the possibility that it is never too late to do what you’ve dreamt of and bring new perspective when looking into the horizon. When you genuinely love doing something it becomes your passion, but if fear or fear of regret impact your decisions it can be easily regretted.…
