Plato, a famous Greek Philosopher once said, “I would teach children music, physics and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning.” As a society, we thrive off the arts, most specifically music. No one can honestly say they have gone a few hours without thinking about, humming, whistling, singing, or even playing a song. Yes, drumming your pencil or pen against anything counts. Why would society deny their children the amazing opportunity to learn something this special?…
As a musician, we always take advantage of music itself. We build our career path and future through music playing but neglect the other values of the…
I started my musical career out at an early age. Starting my first fellowship in elementary school in the fifth grade by playing the flute and getting instructed by one of the best band instructor’s ever Mr. Hartz. But before moving on to the flute every little person played their first instrument which was the recorder where we played in the fourth grade. At this time music wasn't as advanced and the songs we played included lullaby type of songs including Mary had a little lamb, Hot Cross buns, and many more. Since I played band in elementary school starting from the fifth to the eleventh grade, I’ve been real accustomed to all musical aspects.…
As I looked around I came to the realization that these kids around me had the same love for music as me. A little sprout of hope started to form as I started to progress in my musicianship. I knew music would be a big aspect to my life because of my roots, but it was not until high school when I would finally find…
I have been involved with the chorus department since sixth grade, but i have had a passion for music and singing since a young age of three. I know this because, i have vhs tapes of myself standing on top of tables and grabbing anything close to me to use as a microphone. Growing up i was surrounded by musical influences. My brother, who played…
By the beginning of my sophomore year, I was playing the flute and was the section leader. My mother enrolled me in private lessons in a nearby town. The day I joined the marching band was the day I found my true calling in high school. Marching band and music in general has consumed my high school career; performing music has given me a sense of pride and accomplishment. I have played in marching band, pep band, concert band, jazz band, pit orchestra for musicals, youth symphony orchestra, and even state level competition bands.…
Performing is something I just love to do, in a group or as a soloist. When I began high school at Stagg, I wanted to be in an acapella group; an afterschool, audition only choir. After three years of auditioning and being rejected, I finally made it in my senior year. The experience wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be, but it was still a major accomplishment. From being in that group, I learned that I prefer to be a solo musician.…
Imagine waking up to a world full of living dead people with reasons unknown, but knowing that the only possible chance of survival is to kill or be killed in this world. Being able to classify what a zombie is, what it is they are capable of eating, and the only ways of killing a zombie could be the last and only final option of living in a world where humans are outnumbered by the flesh eating creatures called zombies. Whether called walkers, dead things, crazies, superhumans, it, or any other variation heard around the campfire, zombies are a prominent figure in American mythology (Medermott). First heard of in 1915, zombies have taken root in urban legends across the globe (McFarland).…
I dreamed of being in the same positions they were in, with other great musicians creating music, so I learned to play the trumpet, and by the next year, I was. Time flew by, and by the age of 17, I had played in CMEA festivals, charity events, statewide jazz competitions in both California and Nevada, Honor bands, and in the Kennedy Center.…
For as long as I can remember, I have loved music. As a little girl, I would sit by the radio listening to hours of gospel, classical, and jazz. As I grew older, my taste in music expanded I fell in love with the soul artists such as Stevie Wonder, India Arie, BJ the Chicago Kid and Alicia Keys, reggae artists like Bob Marley, and hip hop artists such as Chance the Rapper, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar. Artists like the aforementioned changed music industry with their unique styles, taught me to listen to the message instead of the beat and inspired me to learn more about music and its instruments.…
Mozart is a classical musician that everyone has heard about. His tantalizing music has captured the attention of multiple generations around the world. However, most people only learn about him when they are teenagers or young adults. What would happen if children were exposed to his music and other genres? This question has been asked by many people and studies have been created to find the answer.…
Music has been an essential part and larger than expected role in my life since elementary school. It has given me many opportunities I could have never even dreamt of and has given me the ability to impact the lives of others. Music became a part of my life when I first started playing the viola at Luther Memorial School in the fifth grade. I continued playing throughout middle school and now attend Cleveland School of the Arts, where I have been able to perform countless times and have had classes from professional musicians. Starting in high school I also started attending the Baldwin Wallace Youth Orchestra, which gave me more performance and learning opportunities.…
Todays society is surrounded by music in many different facets. The exposure comes from the growth and dependence on technology, which allows the movement of noise to any location. People take music with them in the car, to the gym, over the speaker systems of most public venues, and even in the shower. This knowledge and understanding of music is a skill that needs to be enriched in the children of today. Music opens doors and opportunities for students that don’t want to be apart of the football team or didn’t make the cheer squad.…
My family is extremely musical. My mom is a music teacher and my dad played drums throughout his life. In fourth grade when I held my saxophone for the first time, I was a leg up from the rest of the class. I felt this way during the rest of my childhood playing the saxophone. I was offered a chance to bring my skill set and overall musical knowledge and ability up a notch when my mom contacted another teacher in our district.…
The activities that I have found the most rewarding to me, which I have previously listed in my application was taking part as a singer in Good Hopewell Baptist Church Inspirational Youth Choir and also becoming the choir’s secretary. Being a part of my church’s choir has opened my eyes towards my faith; it has shown me the different ways to shown glory and praise God. I was never really a singer but as I grew closer to God my gift for singing increased. Being allowed the privilege to spread the glory of God through my voice with my choir, has made me see the importance of teamwork, patience and having pride in what I do; something I believe I will take with me throughout my endeavors. Something that always amazes me while singing is seeing…
