Miracles Of Jesus Research Paper

The world remembers Jesus Christ because of his extraordinary ability to work miracles. A large amount of material recorded in the Gospels center around the miracles of Jesus. These appeared only forty years after his crucifixion. Excluding the crucifixion, there is more evidence of the miracles of Jesus than any other aspect of his life. Of all these miracles, Jesus's nature miracles seem the least historical. In the Gospels, Jesus performs eight miracles that change the natural world. Often, the nature miracles do not reflect the actual actions of Jesus. For example, Jesus walking on water and the stilling of the storm benefit Jesus personally and demonstrate his divine nature. The rest of his miracles never benefit Jesus personally. Furthermore many of these nature miracles occur only in a single source. …show more content…
Jesus's ability to work miracles made him into a public figure. His miracles differed greatly than that of ancient magicians. For example, in the Gospel of Mark, Jesus cannot work miracles or has difficulty if there is little or weakened faith. Also, his miracles helped others and were not meant to benefit himself. Jesus's miracles were a sign of the coming of Gods new kingdom. The permanence of his cures and miracles depended on spiritual growth of the individual Jesus healed. All of this adds to the claim that Jesus helped the sick in ways other people could not. As stated above, it is doubtful that the nature miracles of Jesus are historically accurate and many see those miracles as legends. Skeptics assume that Jesus himself did not perform any miracles and these stories came about later due to the needs of the Church to increase faith in Jesus's divine Weinstein

Miracles were observed after Jesus resurrected in the fact He appeared to many. In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul gives a list of people who witnessed Jesus in His new form. Jesus appeared to Peter, the Twelve, the 500 people, James, the apostles, and lastly Paul. When Jesus appeared to the Twelve, He suddenly appeared in the room when all openings were closed. The disciples also knew it was Him as Thomas was able to see the holes in Jesus’ body as observed in John 20:27, “Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side.…

The Gospel of John has a core message that describes Jesus to be the highest of all humans in terms of divinity. It also tries to sell the fact that Jesus holds in himself, something so divine, that believing in him would be equal to believing in God. John says that Jesus said that God works through Jesus and Jesus does the Work of God. There are several instances where Jesus performs a miracle and then says that everything he did was either request God for something to happen or somehow channel the power of God to perform the miracle.…

The gospels in the Bible are subjective; they do not just state facts, they are a narration about Jesus’ life and works, which makes it open to interpretation. Everyone has their own concept for Jesus’ ideals of his powers. The only source for historical Jesus is found in the four gospels. While the four gospels have similarities, they also contradict each other. They were also released years after Jesus’ death, and they are not first-hand accounts.…

In this essay, I will be talking about what I believe to be true from what Jesus tells us in the Bible, about being the Son of God and how He was here to die on the cross for our sins, showing everyone who He was and who ever believe in Him is save, or healed if they were sick. In this paper, I will be talking about the trustworthiness and historicity of the Gospels. The historical reliability of the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ miracles, and did Jesus claim to be God. Did his disciples believe he was God? The accuracy of the resurrection accounts in the Gospels, that is, did Jesus rise bodily from the dead?…

In Matthew 8:3, the sick man was healed of his leprosy by the touch of Jesus, immediately. A bleeding woman touched Jesus’ cloak and was healed immediately in Mark 5:29. God receives the glory for the healing. “Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves” (John 14:11, NIV). The immediacy of the healing miracles is evidence of a supernatural God that can choose to do as He desires.…

Therefore Jesus is God.” (Macarthur, 2003). Before even going into what Jesus did during his lifetime, the Bible will continuously state that he is God. Jesus will only reinforce this point later in the New Testament, by revealing characteristics of God and his eternal nature through the various miracles that He has done throughout his life. But amongst the miracles that Jesus had performed, Jesus’s resurrection is the most famous and influential to his nature of God.…

I think it was quite the opposite and he didn’t want to show everyone who he is by performing miracles. Tatum says, “”Signs” are what Jesus’ opponents demand of him and what Jesus refuses to perform, namely, unequivocal demonstrations that he is God” (Tatum, W. B., 1999, P. 208). I notice it again in the Gospel of Luke, “And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet”. (Luke…

Each miracle intentionally spoke to the power that Jesus had through God. Some of the most notable miracles include, changing water into wine, feeding the 5,000, healing the man born blind, and raising Lazarus from the dead (Barksdale 1500). These miracles served equally important purposes, one was that many were converted to Christianity, and the other was that the disciples would believe also. For example, Mary and Martha, of Bethany, sent word to Jesus that their brother Lazarus was sick and admonished him to come, so he could heal him. His disciples did not understand when Jesus referred to Lazarus as sleep, and stated, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will be alright”…

The Gospel of John is one of the four Gospels written to tell the story of Jesus’ life. Just as Matthew, Mark, and Luke have given their accounts of Jesus’ miracles so has John. Though these accounts may have their own way of telling what is important to them, the main fact is that these Gospels were recorded so that we may learn more of the word of God. “In order to understand John’s approach to the story of Jesus, the reader must recognize the centrality of the incarnation of the Gospel” (NIB 1905). The book of John begins, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).…

“This is the Gospel that identifies Jesus as the Word of God “Through whom all things were made” (Ehrman 112). As the Word Jesus was recognized as God by readers as they realized they were reading biographical information in John’s first chapter. Nowhere in the other Gospels is Jesus said to be the Word of God, the creator of of the universe, the equal of God, or the one sent from heaven and soon to return” (Ehrman 116). These extreme differences makes Gospel stand alone as it varies so much from the other gospels. Instead of considering Jesus’ actions miracles, John considers them the seven signs.…

Growing up I always remember hearing all the Bible stories about Jesus performing miracles. From feeding the 10,000, to healing the leper, to even turning water into wine. As a child I never really questioned the idea of Christ performing miracles. They were always just the stories I heard in Sunday School and Church, they never seemed anything less than spectacular. I found it so interesting that my Jesus, the one who died on the cross from me, had that much power.…
