There is no arguing that recent police shootings of minorities have generated a great amount of controversy among minority communities. This sort of controversy leads to civil unrest which can explained through the conflict theory. Conflict theory is the belief that the Criminal Justice administration reflects the realities of social inequalities (Delone, Spohn, and Walker, 2012). This is evident in the recent shooting of Michael Brown. The people of the minority communities saw that an unarmed black male is was shot down by police. This incident along with a humiliation of future police related incidents lead a majority of blacks to believe that the criminal justice systems continues push social inequalities.

The people that are “targeting” are the criminal justice system. This matches with the sheer definition of the Conflict Theory. Black Live matters believes that there is massive social inequalities between the treatments of blacks in the criminal justice system compared to white citizens. This element was also perceived as an injustice by Black Lives Matter in the Michael Brown case. The Michael Brown case even after the exoneration of the officer saw major civil unrest. Many people protested and rioted don the streets as soon as communities heard that an unarmed black man was shot by the police. Black Lives Matter seemingly paints a narrative that blacks are being killed by alarming rates by police officers. This is however not true. The Daily Wire reported that studies supported that officers kill twice as many whites compared to blacks.
