Ever since I was young I have had an interest in medicine. Both my aunts were nurses; when I was little my sister and I always played doctor/nurse with them. The stethoscope was my favorite tool to use. Currently, my sister is studying at Luther to become a nurse and is in Rochester doing clinical at Mayo. When she is home on breaks and over the summers, she would show me how to take vital signs while using me as her

I chose Augustana for their science programs. They have an extremely high acceptance rate into medical school at about 88% and very interesting research programs. I also chose Augustana because I will be able to play soccer there and it has always been a dream of mine to play soccer in college. Right now I am thinking of majoring in biochemistry with the intent to go to medical school. I have also considered nursing, physician’s assistant and research as possible career paths. Since sports have always been a huge part of my life through soccer, basketball and track, sports medicine has also come up when thinking of possible careers. Luckily the only sport injury I have had was a torn tendon in my finger which required only a splint for a month, so I have not had much experience with sports medicine, but have witnessed many sport related injuries. With any career path I choose I would like to be in the pediatric division because through working at a daycare and at the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis I have learned I have a passion for working with
