Media, Education and Propaganda
Fundamentals of Social Psyx Even though the world around us is amazingly tremendous when it comes to knowledge and news, we need to be wary to the media’s intent on giving us news or information about the world. Although it is much needed (in my opinion) we do need to take some caution when viewing it. I have a friend who stays home all day watching CNN. He is deeply depressed and is living in fear, which can change from day to day, depending on what CNN is covering that day. This is not only unhealthy, its unnecessary. I believe that the news causes a little fear so that you feel the need to continue to watch their station for more information. However, this is simply my opinion. There is something to needing to be conscious to what is going on in the world, after all that’s why it’s called the North East West South. While I do feel that the media is constantly taking advantage of our humanity, so to speak, I do feel it is our responsibility to be smart about what we believe and listen to when it comes to any form of media or dare I say propaganda. While they do tend to report more on the blood and gore, from my experience, and this could be just because of the valley in which we all live in, but I find that most people are super annoyed when the news takes time away from the blood and reports on something positive. Most people think that they are trying to sugar coat the ugly world or are trying to twinkle dust us as a community. I personally like to have it broke up to have different types of reports. Having a little positivity is a good thing to see that the world isn’t completely messed up. Even as the book had stated a few times, we are more gullible when we have low self-esteem or might have a different personality than those around us. I feel the media could cater completely to one person, but it would only to benefit that person and no one else. However, we are blessed and cursed to live in such an exciting world where any knowledge is at our finger tips, quite literally; even though we need to be aware that the information we receive may be bias one way or another, being educated as viewers would make a huge difference. I also feel that it is a must to limit yourself to what and how much you take in on from day to day. It’s also important to find creditable sources when looking for information. The same could be said for education. …show more content…
I feel that a few people I know say that they are “awake to what is going on in the world” or well educated because they constantly watch the media or look at highly bias websites and blogs. Even though they look at a website that says we have been lied to for years about the world being round and that it’s really flat. I feel that if you are an educated and critical thinking adult you could reason though the science and understand how that is not even a little true. However, because they are so willing to believe anything that they see on the news that they go with it. It absolutely blows me away. I feel that when it comes to the modern world and, let’s say 200 years ago, people would have thoughts, beliefs
