Many countries are effected by food shortages worldwide. According to Global Citizen the 10 worst affected counties are Burundi, Eritrea, Comoros, Timor Leste, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Yemen Republic, Sundan, Zambia and Chad all counties in Africa. Did you know these counties produce most of the world’s food stock? You may wonder why the people of these counties undernourished. Also why are the people of these counties living below the poverty line when theses counties are producing food According to Global Citizen “The main problem with these African counties is not that it can’t produce food, but that due to overpopulation, soil erosion, climate change, high food prices and an ongoing civil war, the country has to import more than they are exporting. In the last few years alone due to these factors, and the increase of internally displaced citizens who can’t produce their own food, the subsistence economy of Burundi has contracted by 25%”. Meal on Wheels has been supported for 41 years by United Way a nonprofit organization. Meals on Wheels has proven to be a staple in many communities. It serves as a beacon of hope in disadvantaged areas. It brings about social awareness toward issues that are hidden in our country in regards to the relations of citizens in the lower, middle and upper class. This organizations helps strengthens the love we as people should have toward each other as everyone eventually needs some sort of help and aid. Imagine a world without any sort of social welfare, as many issues as we have today I can only imagine how many more we would have without such a wonderful organizations. Regardless Meals on Wheels is a very special program that is in a small but enormous light making the world a better place. Meals on Wheels does a great job providing nutrient rich foods to its clients. The organization collaborates with licensed dietitians in local healthcare facilities in order to create well balanced meals that cater to nutrient needs of your average individual. Each client receives two meals daily, of which one is hot and the other is cold. To date there are approximately 1700 volunteers which includes 900 corporate community organizations that share delivery of 40 routes daily (JUMO Music, 2015) in the greater Indianapolis area. Meals on Wheels also has a program that provides emergency food kits which includes cheese crackers, a can of tuna, a fruit cup, cookies, soup, oatmeal, and an 8oz sample of Ensure. This emergency food pack is for snacking in-between meals in addition to consuming at your hungriest moments.
