Theresa,

I remembered in our Med-Surg 1 when we were learning about MI, professor Teri Reynolds taught us a acroyname that helped the class to remember immediet treatment for MI, which is MONA and it stands for morphine, oxygen, nitroglycerin, and aspirin. It does not need to be in the same order, but it is want you administer for a patient that is experiencing MI.

After a patient is stable from a MI, it is very important to assess and provide intervention to the patient to prevent for future MI. Once a patient is stable from a post MI, the physician can do a exercise stress test for prognostic assessment without high-risk features, such as hypotension, CHF, recurrent chest pain or inability to exercise. By peforming the exercise stress test

Anaerobic and aerobic exercise were determined to effectively influence muscle oxygen uptake at the cellular level. Evaluating and measuring the effectiveness of the two types of exercise on oxygen uptake would inform the advantages and disadvantages they have on muscles. Significant amounts of oxygen are consumed by the human muscles when moderate intensity aerobic work is performed. Contradictorily, anaerobic exercise causes the body to break down stored glycogen in muscles for energy. Therefore, oxygen availability, biological factors, and exercise intensity are factors contributing to muscle oxygen uptake.…

Exercise Physiology It has long been thought that strenuous or prolonged exercise can affect the human’s endocrine system. This is an interesting scenario because endocrine system synthase performs as a negative feedback system. This means that when there is an unusually high level of a hormone in the blood, a signal will be sent back and production of that particular hormone will be stopped. The negative feedback system can easily keep all hormones levels at the optimal level for humans.…

Patients that present with chest pain and acute coronary symptoms are taken very seriously. Chest pain protocol order sets are put into place quickly upon the patient's arrival to the hospital to see if the chest pain is cardiac or non cardiac related. The chest pain protocol is driven by evidence based practice to increase patient safety and expedite care. At my place of employment (a rural ER without a cardiac cath lab), the chest pain protocol consists of: performing an EKG within 10 minutes from patient's arrival time, IV access, lab draw (Troponin, CBC, CMP, INR, PTT), chest x-ray, oxygen, cardiac monitor, pulse ox, and Aspirin 324mg unless contraindicated. Using evidence based protocols when a patient is experiencing chest pain will help reduce delays in critical interventions such as thrombolytic therapy (if not contraindicated) for a patient experiencing a STEMI.…

A fitness test is a great tool to utilize in order to measure cardiovascular fitness and understand how hard the body is working during physical activity. To measure a person’s overall fitness, four types of tests must be performed: aerobic fitness, muscular strength, flexibility, and body composition (President’s Challenge). Each component is tested individually for cardiovascular strength, the ability to perform every day activities, joint movement and flexibility, and amounts of fat on the body respectively (President’s Challenge). Each component of the fitness test is measured with different types of activity. To test my aerobic fitness, I chose to do the 1-mile walk and timed myself and recorded my heart rate when I finished the brisk…
