Limits Of Gun Control

Decent Essays
I believe in gun control and all its limits, But is this limit enough? Well, I believe no there are too many guns just remaining in the market and it's starting to get out of control. I believe bigger guns such as, Assault Rifles, Submachine guns, Shotguns and any other war weapons should be off limits! I think weapons such as pistols should only be the remaining gun. Not Automatic pistols, only a single shot to prevent accidental fires and harm. Only Army men, S.W.A.T, and bigger law enforcement should have those weapons, and that's only if needed. One of the reasons I believe in limited gun control is because of the many cases of accidental harm and injuries. With a one shot pistol you will have to pull back a lock, then shoot you can't

Texas Law states that “a person can also shoot someone they if they reasonably believe deadly force is necessary to prevent someone else from trying to kill or seriously injure them, or there is the threat of certain crimes such as sexual assault or aggravated kidnapping” (Schwaller, 2015) This was a law set to protect what one considers valuable, whether it be his or her own families or even just to protect oneself from harms way. In 2007 there was a man who saw his neighbors’ house being broken into and saw the assailants fleeing the home. The man then proceeded to call 911 to inform them he intended to shoot the burglars should they not stop fleeing. He shot both assailants and a year later he was acquitted.…

According to Jill Lepore, a Harvard professor of United States History, a 1991 poll in the US found that people were more likely to know of the Second Amendment: the “right to bear arms” than they were to know the First: the freedom of speech, religion, and assembly (Lepore). This startling fact clearly shows that US citizens prioritize guns very highly, perhaps over our own freedom. However, the interpretation of the Second Amendment as the right of citizens to carry any and all types of guns wherever they want, is misconceived. The actual Amendment states “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”. At the time the Amendment was written,…

Also new laws need to be made to help keep a threshold on the capacity of guns allowed to be kept for personal use, there should be no reason to have multiple weapons unless they have a significant purpose such as hunting or personal security. Without the proper training any attempt to protect your self with a firearm could go wrong in a number of different ways. A study conducted by Philip J. Cook revealed that criminals are actually less likely to want to hurt someone if they were carrying a firearm. Using the gun as only a threat to get what they want without having to physically injure someone is their goal. Crime is always likely to happen no matter what laws or rules are in place, but if a crime were to occur it would be more beneficial that it happened without anyone getting…

Gun Control does not prevent Gun Violence Gun control is a very controversial topic especially in today's society; whether gun control is good or bad is a very talked about subject especially when it comes to the United States. This is a very touchy subject because guns are a part of a lot of people's daily lives. People that are anti gun control believe that no one should be able to put any restrictions on guns. They believe that people should be able to buy a firearm just like a pair of boots or a tool. They also believe that if you take firearms away from the law abiding citizens that just leaves firearms in the hands of people that don't abide by the law and leaves them defenseless.…

The overall purpose of the gun control policy is to reduce the number of guns getting into the hands of people who are not legally licensed. Depending on the state, it also may or may not be required that you do a background check or have a license for gun purchases. For example, in the New York State, background check and having a licensed for gun purchases is required. However, in a state like Florida, background checks or having a license for gun purchases is not required. Despite this idea of background checks for gun purchases, there is also this idea of high-capacity magazine ban that prohibits people from selling and owning guns with high capacity as they are able to kill people rapidly because they do not need to be reloaded as fast.…

Gun control causes a lot of violence and crime in the U.S., there needs to be more restrictions. Make it harder for Americans to purchase handguns, but can carry them as concealed weapons for protection. In the last year, ten thousand seven hundred and twenty eight people died from getting shot by a handgun(Gun-Control Dishonesty). 62% of the 31,000 deaths caused by a gun are suicides (Cornell 2). According to Arthur L. Kellerman, MD, “residents of homes where a gun is present are 5 times more likely to experience a suicide than residents of homes without guns” (A Case for Gun Control). I have experienced the effects of suicide within my own family. One month ago, my cousin Marisa committed suicide. She was 26 years old and had been diagnosed with schizophrenia a few years prior to the tragic incident.…

While I do not believe we should completely get rid of guns, I think there should be tight restrictions on who is able to own a gun. I know people want to be able to defend themselves…

On an average day in the United States 93 americans are killed by gun violence. There are also 1000’s of cases that involve a child being injured or killed by a stray bullet every year. Does this mean that guns are dangerous or does it mean we are using guns for the wrong intention? There are many reasons people use guns but like everything else some people use it for good and some for evil. Since the United States can't take away all of our guns I feel there should be some guns you should be able to purchase at your local store for self-defense or hunting and there are also some guns in which you should go through heavy background checks to be able to purchase.…
