Many say “Cheerleading isn’t just a sport. It’s a way of life”. If you said that to me four years ago, I would have never believed you. Now, there is no question in my mind that this is true. I was on the varsity cheer team at my high school from freshman to senior year.…
Every team has a universal goal for success. Every team desires to operate at optimum performance. Through a fictional account, Patrick Lencioni illustrates how talented teams fail to be successful. The author always makes a conscious effort to ensure when she speaks to and of her team that she uses “we” instead of “you” and “I”. This allows not only her team but other to know their work is a group effort. This can also lead the team to understand the work they do is not a single effort but they must rely on each other as a group. One must keep in mind to get an area to feel like and act like a team can take time with both fellow teammates and the leader. It is up to the leader to maintain the efforts of…
“Boy meets girl” and they live happily ever after... or not. (500) Days of Summer is the pure definition of a “complicated” relationship. Although one of the main characters, Summer, told Tom, another main character, that she didn 't want to be “anyone 's anything” at the start of their relationship, of course her actions proved to be a lot different than her words. Subsequently, the main point of the movie was love is real, but it depends on fate. There were many stages of the main character’s “relationship” that corresponds with what we have learned this semester about communicating with others.…
“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen” (Michael Jordan). Teams consist of multiple roles including leaders, starters, and supporters who all contribute and are vital to the success of the team. Athletes who are willing to put in extra time and effort earn main roles on the team. Meanwhile, positive teammates who may not be as athletically gifted or old enough to play in a starring position, make the team to fulfill a supporting role throughout the season. The starters, main players, supporters, and even bench warmers are important to the success of the team.…

The first concept that I would like to apply to my past relationship is the Knapps Stages Model. This model takes about the different stages that we go through in a relationship from when we first begin to when you and your partner decide that it’s time to call it quits. This model mainly focuses on the “coming together “and “coming apart” aspects of the relationship. Knapps model has various of stages of a relationship. Which are Initiating Experimenting Intensifying Integrating Bonding Differentiating Circumscribing Stagnation Avoiding Terminating.…
Building a relationship is known to be filled with intense feelings of admiration and affection. As in most Nicholas Sparks stories, the building of relationships is the most prominent theme. In the film “The Longest Ride”, directed by George Tillman Jr. but based off the book written by Nicholas Sparks, Luke, a well-known bull rider, and Sophia, an aspiring art major in college, stumble upon each other when least expected and begin their journey together as they form a relationship. During the time Luke and Sophia are getting to really know each other, Ira Levinson, a complete stranger in need of help, comes into their lives and inspires them with a love story like no other.…
So, even if the team doesn’t succeed in winning there is still quite a bit of developmental experiences (Vella, & et. al, 2013). Gordon Bombay created team cohesion by developing a feeling of ownership among the players (“Who wants to be a duck?” locker room speech), providing a mastery motivational climate, and spending time together outside of playing. When a team is socially cohesive the individuals are…
Through doing the Team Final Project exercise, I gained many insights about interdisciplinary/ cross-functional teams, the most importing being that this was a valuable learning opportunity. I learned how to work with people whom I have never met before or interacted with in person. I learned more about how businesses are run. I learned about different organizational structures such as the matrix structure. Working on this project helped me understand how Bruce Tuckman’s Team-Development model is applied to real life situations.…
Since we were given the freedom to choose our own teammates to form groups of five, we generally chose to team up with our friends. This resulted in a greater camaraderie within the group. The camaraderie among teammates made us felt that we are all part of the group and each of us held responsibility towards the group. Owing to the mutual understanding between teammates, we got to share and consider each other’s thoughts as well as made important decisions together which reduced a great deal of problems and conflicts within the group.…
The present text explores the relationship between cohesion and team sports, specifically as demonstrated in the movie Remember the Titans (2000). Cohesion can be described as either task cohesion, in which the individual is interested in fulfilling the goals of the team, or social cohesion in which interpersonal relationships are made within a group. The process of team building is described as four stages; forming, storming, norming and performing. Several factors affecting cohesion are explored including group size, team communication, homogeneity, distinctiveness and leadership behaviours. Finally, the cohesion-performance relationship is analyzed in sport situations to conclude that there is a positive, circular relationship between the…
Most adults’ favorite memories are from their past years participating in sporting events throughout their high school careers. They may not have realized it at the time, but they created memories and friendships to last a lifetime. High school athletes of future generations could not have the opportunity to invent vivid, unforgettable memories and such close relationships as our older generations had the chance to do. Not only could our future students miss out on memories and fun, but they could lack the life skills which athletes gain from participating in sports. High schools should continue to offer sports to provide students with leadership skills, opportunities for community involvement, and college scholarships to prepare for a bright,…
Every Arcadia sports team is working hard this season to perfect their skills, especially the Girls Volleyball team. The Girls Volleyball team have been practicing non-stop to continue their undefeated record from last year. Every single player has been individually working hard to improve their skills, while working together to win games. Senior Ava Liu, who plays an outsider for the Girls Varsity Volleyball team, is hopeful about going to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) with the team this year. “Since it’s my last year, I’m looking forward to playing with everybody and to hopefully be getting to CIF and making it farther than we did last time!”…
Playing together as a team creates a special bond that is difficult to break. Infact, it was a way of getting to know people, the teachers, students and even parents. During one of the inter-school game competitions, I met John, a player from the team. We became friends and the relationship became a life time commitment. Today we are happily married.…
