“Tension is akin to strength and power, while relaxation is speed, endurance, and flexibility.” (StrongFirst SFG 1 manual)

Interestingly, strength as a skill practice also teaches you to relax your body. Training, sport, and life itself are a delicate balance of give and take. While the ketltlebell press involve totally body tension to lift the bell above the head, the kettlebell swing requires max tension on the concentric upswing of the lift, and total relaxation as the kettlebell floats at chest level. Being able to “turn on” or “turn off” your tension will allow maximal strength expression while also saving energy for further reps - great conditioning is the result.

She is the type of person many over-protective mothers who only want “the best for their children”, and I put the quotation marks with that phrase because it is an understatement of the mothers’ huge expectations of their kids’ future lives. Parents like these create the “perfect” child they plan to raise, and Olive is just like that parent. She believed all these times that she was raising Christopher the way she expected him to because it would make his life and future…

After watching the video on the speech that Dr. Shackelford gave, I began to reflect on the things that he spoke about. He talked about all the things he went through and how he overcame those obstacles and got to where he is now. Dr. Shackelford moved from city to city constantly as a child and that was an impediment. Since he moved all the time, he never learned all the other things children were learning. For example, he talked about when he was in the 5th grade in Kentucky and his classmates were talking about the history of Kentucky with the teacher and he was clueless because he hadn’t been in Kentucky long enough to learn the history.…
