Justification by faith is the heart of the gospel. In order to fully understand the gospel, it is imperative to first fully understand the gift of justification and it’s glorious implications for us sinners. Justification by faith is what sets Christianity apart from every other belief system and religion. This subject however is no simple concept to grasp. There is nothing about justification that makes any logical sense, but rather it is only because of God’s radical love and grace we are justified and saved. Paul further explains our this in Romans 6:23 when he says, “For the wages of sin is death, but because of what Christ did on the cross, God looks at us and calls us righteous,” (Romans 6:23). Grudem summarizes this confidence well when he says, “God will never take vengeance on us for our past sins or make us pay the penalty that is due for them or punish us out of wrath for the purpose of doing harm.” (Grudem 732). Justification in the New Testament is contrasted with condemnation. With justification and Christ’s atoning death comes our salvation and every spiritual blessing. This means there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). This promise is both now and the future. This truth takes away the weight of the decisions I am afraid to make. Who should I date? Do I move to Alabama? Should work for Student Life next summer? Who will be my roommate once my current roommate graduates? These constant thoughts consuming my brain and stressing me out are not worth it. Christ’s death on the cross covers it all. Because of his death I am justified and have the peace of knowing that God is in control. There is nothing I can do to mess up those decisions. There is nothing I can do to mess up God’s plan for me. There is nothing I can do to impress him more. Because of justification I have freedom to make decisions. I have freedom to accept peace in those decisions and know that there is …show more content…
As I better understand my total depravity as a sinful human, I am able to better understand God’s amazing grace. The grace God had on me when he allowed his Son to die on the cross for my sins, because he loves me. To think that the savior of the universe died for me, and lives inside of me makes no logical sense but is a beautiful narrative of God’s grace and love for me. Because of Christ’s work on the cross, God can now look at me with favor and say I am completely forgiven and righteous. Ultimately, justification brings freedom and peace knowing it is finished. What a beautiful gift. What a beautiful
