CONCERT ATTENDANCE REPORT

My taste of music varies from rock to pop, but mostly I gravitate towards rap music. So have a strong taste in rap I have attended a few shows and also seen many live instrument performances as well. Not until I took this class have I considered attending a jazz concert. When I looked on the pages given to us on events nearby, there wasn’t any that seem to catch my attention. Until I heard that CGCC was holding a small jazz comb. I thought I’d give a shot and plus it was free to attend. This concert had been different than any others I attended before, the performers were students at CGCC and couple of them were fellow classmates. The concert was held outside performing art building on October 19, featured students at CGCC. I got there around the time it started and the band was still setting up. Which was great for me because this gave me time to pull out my materials and take pictures of the setting. I took notes of the instruments used in the jazz combo and recorded some part of the session I attended. As band did their finished discussing their arrangement and finished setting up. I observed the crowd and who gathered to watch. At first there were few people from students, couple parents and what to seen to be professors eager to listen to jazz while eating lunch. Kind of the atmosphere that I was expecting at a

This event was amusing. I enjoyed seeing the band playing for the sake of music, we do have some skilled individuals on campus. I can see there are different styles of jazz, some people seemed to prefer slow jazz, others a funky and yet other fast-paced. A fusion of both is appeals more to me. Yet I still lack musical knowledge in jazz. I was able to follow along and know the different structures of songs and pick up on various sounds and techniques. I do believe to have an appreciation to hip hop, its starts by appreciating

Jazz History Concert Report II For my final concert writing critique, I decided to attend the live Ball State Student Jazz Combos on Tuesday, November 8; this event took place in Choral Hall inside of the university’s Music Instruction Building. The wooden hall was smaller than I thought it would have been, but it gave the concert setting a more intimate feel. There were three groups presenting that day, each under a different director. Because each group did not have a specific name, I had to label them based on the order in which they performed.…

Finally, I can say that experiencing this type of Jazz concert, where it is more of a casual, lounge atmosphere was very interesting due to the fact that the first Jazz concert I attended was in a more professional setting. It was a lot more obvious to me how Jazz does live in the moment, since the band actually did a whole improvised piece and was randomly deciding what they were going to play next. The connection between the band members was also very evident, they had a lot of eye contact and head signals. Last but not least, I am excited about the fact that this jazz session incorporated certain elements of Jazz that we have recently covered in class. For example, the train influence on music pieces.…

On October 15 7:30pm , I attended the UIC theatre to listen to the Wind Ensemble, UIC orchestra and the Mariachi Fuego. The concert consisted of performers who were students from UIC. On Friday, July 10th, the local instrumental jazz group Yuma Jazz Company played at Lutes Casino for a couple of hours. The instrumentation was fairly standard for a jazz group, with trumpet, saxophone, guitar, double bass, and drums (I believe those were electric). The guitar and bass, along with the drums, served as a sort of basso continuo, generally backing the horns, but occasionally taking up the melody for themselves, resulting in a texture that was thinly polyphonic. Also noticeable was the “fabulous light up tip jar,” a colorful accompaniment to their music. The concert ran from 7 to 9 PM, so I went in not only with the intention of listening to the group but also with a good meal in mind.…

Music has played a gigantic role in defining who I am. When I was little I was always involved in music. Even if it was not me making the music, I was always bopping my head along or tapping my foot to the beat of the music. My parents were surprised to find out that I was the child that was fascinated by the marching band walking in the parade. I knew by a young age that I wanted to be in that band.…

For a crucial moment in the quarter, my life has been hectic and I have not found time to fully relax my mind and my body. But this event, specifically the jazz pieces, has allowed me to do so. I found myself able to forget about school and work for a brief moment, and allow the jazz music to take the stress away. Ironically, I rarely listen to jazz music for fun because I find the music to be chaotic. My friend loves jazz concerts and he is always inviting me out to events similar to this one, but I typically decline.…

During the final week of classes at Truman, I had the pleasure of hearing the school’s jazz bands in concert. During the concert, the Jazz Lab band and the Jazz Ensemble, both directed by Tim AuBuchon, played several jazz standards and modern favorites. The Jazz Lab band started out the night with five big band pieces. The instrumentation of the Jazz Lab band was standard for a big band; it included about four of each horn (saxophone, trumpet, and trombone), an upright bass, a piano, and a drumset.…

The jazz ensemble was set up in straight rows, which was different from the classical ensemble. From what I could tell the performers seemed excited to start playing, they were probably as excited as myself, if not more, to be able to play alongside Stuart Mack. Stuart is a very talented musician both from what I read in the program and from seeing him perform throughout the concert. From the audience clapping and being able to feel more relaxed during the performances to actually enjoying the solos…

The second Musician I want to talk about would be Michael Lington during the live Jazz Concert. Michael Lington is the Sax player. He is a Danish- American contemporary Saxophonist , producer, songwriter, recording artist and a purveyor of soul and contemporary Jazz. I personally love the way how the concert went, even though I’m not in the actual performance, but I still felt how excited the audiences was during the concert. During the Concert the music was played very soft and it did not have anything like the big band or African influence kind of characteristics.…

During my ongoing business conference to Colorado to learn about future career opportunities for my dual degrees in Communication design and Computer Science, I got to attend an orchestra concert presented by the Hapless Heroes who were conducted by Leslie Stewart. The show was musical theatre where they had a live orchestra playing in front of the stage while the actors explained the Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. I attended this amazing show on the 4th of December. I love learning about Greek Mythology so I was already enthusiastic about attending this show.…
