2) whose introduction causes or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health,” is the official definition of invasive species from the USDA. We need to solve the invasive species problem, all of us humans. Invasive species are a threat to the U.S. biodiversity and are almost as bad as habitat loss and degradation (NWF)! As stated by the NWF, the Asian Carp, “were introduced in the 1960s and 1970s to control algae and other vegetation in fish farms.” These fish are very large and big-headed and can grow over four feet. Also, they weigh over fifty pounds and are a grey or silver color. Next, the Asian carp breed very fast and a female will have up to …show more content…
There are plenty of ways people are helping with this issue. One is separating the waterways of the Great Lakes and another is making canals to direct the Asian carp to fish barriers (NWF). But, there is another argument about the Asian carp, which states that global warming is actually the problem in this whole, “invasive species” dilemma (Orion 3). Now, while maybe global warming is the problem and invasive species are the symptom, it does not mean that we should not stop these plants and animals. NWF has a lot of reasons for stopping the carp, but one that I chose is this, “Asian carp consume up to 20% of their bodyweight per day in plankton and can grow to over 100 pounds. Plankton are small floating organisms that form the foundation of the aquatic food chain and are vital to native fish,” meaning with these villains, the native fish will not
