The first argument he implodes is the separation of respect that is delivered from an outsider’s perspective. He entails the relationship he experienced when doing his research in the favelas that can, in simplistic terms, be solitary experienced and not told.
Through living in the favela residents experience constant turmoil and unrest as police make periodic stops to concur the unconquerable. Undergoing what many go though on a daily basis is what Ben did.
One afternoon when walking he was walking with a friend in the favela when two police cars came rushing in with armed guards running thought the courtyard. Although ben has witnessed police raids and shootouts, he never thought he would be in the middle of one, let alone be involved. The police ran around to where they caught up to ben unintentionally - shocking that he was in contact with policemen. They gave him a pat down and were on their way, noticing the large weapons following behind them.
Irrevocably at the time ben begun to understood why people would want to remain invisible to there surrounding’s. The saying in the favela is “se corer o bicho pega” meaning if you run the animal gets you” and “se ficar o bicho come” saying ‘if you stay the animal eat
