Ink4a Cells Case Study

Decent Essays
UV rays can damage a cell`s DNA which at times affects how a cell grows and divides.
The INK4A cell has a role in the G1 cell cycle which is held by the G1 cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) 4/6), in this manner, allowing access into the S-phase of the Cell Cycle.
When the INK4A cell and the CDKs don’t bind, it can lead to a hyperphosphorylation, mitosis regulator, failure and that causes the cell cycle to just keep going without control.
The melanoma mutation affects the cell checkpoints during the G1 and G2 Interphase steps. This causes the cell to lose control of division, and mutate, which causes cancers. In this case it would start in the skin.
Since they are cancer cells and do not have limits, they grow and travel to other parts of the body out of control.

This cell is most commonly mutated with this disease. Most of these diseases include a mutation in a gene called BRAF which can make proteins that can cause cells to divide quicker. Figure 3 shows what makes up your skin.

Dermatologists can diagnose Melanoma by doing a physical skin test and checking moles or other weird spots
Sometimes a Dermoscope is used to get a better look
The dermatologists can see pigments in the cell or feel lymph nodes or glands
If weird spots are spotted, small parts can be taken for a biopsy (which is needed for

Most cancer results from faulty DNA repair mechanisms. 40. Cells become cancerous from point mutations (CpG transition in p53), double-stranded breaks, major chromosome rearrangements, chromosome loss/gain, loss of checkpoints, activation of oncogenes, and turning off tumor suppressors via hypermethylations. 41. Mutations and chromosomal abnormalities will affect the regulation of proteins or the structure of the proteins.…

Part A Me Text Statement A A 1. If UV intensity levels doubled, mutations in animal cells, skin cancers, and cataracts would increase. “The intensity of UV radiation reaching the Earth’s surface doubled—levels that would increase DNA mutations in human and animal cells, suppress our immune systems, and increase the incidence of cataracts and skin cancer.”…

DNA is affected by UV through pyrimidine dimers which result in an incorrect sequence of the DNA bases. For instance, a common effect is the bonding of two thymine bases of the DNA resulting in a thymine dimer. Although the most common effects of UV radiation are physical, there can be adverse unseen effects. The most common unseen effect is the suppression of the immune response system of an…

Malignant Melanoma is the most menacing type of skin cancer. Unrepaired DNA from UV rays trigger mutations in the skin cells which leads to rapid cell division forming malignant tumors. These tumors are formed in the melanocytes in the Stratum Basal (Basal Layer). Signs and symptoms of Malignant Melanoma include excessive sun exposure, family background of melanoma or skin cancer, changes in mole that have to do with asymmetry, border, color, diameter, elevation/ evolving, along with previous problems of melanoma. Diagnosis of malignant melanoma include a blood count of cells and procedures that involve excisional biopsy of lesion.…

P 53 also known as “the guardian of the genome” is a tumor suppressor gene that works regulating the cell cycle and apoptosis. It is a very important gene since the lack of its action can allow the cells to divide an abnormal number of times and if action is not taken by the cell’s checkpoints, this could lead to cancer. The evolution of tumors associated with mutations in the p53 gremlin is not well understood and numerous researches have been completed trying to identify all of its characteristics. As all inherited gene mutations, p53 mutations are present in all somatic cells, but the effect of these mutations can have malignant effect on the cells.…

Another prevention of getting it really bad is knowing what to look for when examining your own body. Surgery is one of the treatments for early Melanoma. One of the main treatments for later stages include chemotherapy. Doctors will also do grafting when there is a larger amount of the cancer in an area. Grafting is removing the large mass and replacing it with different tissue from another part of healthy skin.…

Melanoma skin cancer begins in melanocytes, and can occur on any skin surface. People with dark shades of skin have a very rare chance of getting getting melanoma. Basal cell skin cancer begins in the basal cell layer of the skin and it occurs where skin is exposed to the sunlight. This is the most common type of cancer for those who are really fair. Squamous cell skin cancer begins in the squamous cell layer of the skin and it is very common for those who have dark skin.…

However, beside all of it’s good qualities, the sun can also be harmful in large amounts. One of the most dangerous factors from sun is exposure of UV radiation. The UV radiations are separated by different wave lengths, and the most common types are UVA and UVB, which have a variety of effects in the skin due to the absorption patterns of chromospheres, the parts of the molecules. These ultraviolet radiations lead to mutations that the cell may not be able to overcome and thus leading to uncontrolled growth and eventual skin cancer.…

Skin cancer (1) is caused due to mutations in the DNA of our skin cells. These mutations cause the cells to create big cancer cells in the body. Most of the damage caused to your DNA cells are mostly due to UV rays. The causes to damage of cataracts (3) are looking into the sun directly which help the UV rays pass through your cornea and lead to foggy vision and if untreated may lead to blindness. Sun rays could also cause danger to marine life.…

Wind back the tape of life, Stephen Jay Gould once said, and the chance becomes vanishingly small that anything like human intelligence would grace the replay. Whether evolution can produce the same kinds of creatures more than once is a question that has been on more than one mind for a long time. Some biologists argue that evolution is a deterministic process, meaning that similar environments will tend to produce similar outcomes. Others think its course follows unpredictable twists and turns, and that the same starting point can lead to very difficult results. Say we rewound time, and took the history of our planet back some million years.…

CANCER CELLS VERSE HEALTHY CELLS The cells in our body are always replicating through the process of cell division known as mitosis. The cells growth is regulated, meaning that cell division only occurs when cells are damaged, lost, or worn out. However, some cells such as cancer cells lose control of cell division and reproduce uncontrollably. They lose their control of replication when the gene, in which controls the cell to stop growing at a certain point, is lost or not present.…
