Helens has erupted many times in the past and will in future events. Some eruptions have been much more dangerous or more violent than others, because it depends on the amount of silica it has in the magma. Silica is a major portion of magma. If the magma was high in silica, then the eruption would be so much more powerful. If the magma had less silica,it would seem to be more easy to flow out of the volcano, and escapes fairly easy, so the eruption won’t be so destructive as it would be if it had more silica in it. Mount St. Helens had it’s most recent eruption in 2008. Mount St. Helens had at least 4 major eruptions in the past. In it’s most tremendous eruption in 1980, it killed only 57 people. I know that may not sound like a lot of people, but it was a really serious eruption. It cost 1.1 billion of dollars to repair and fix all of it’s damage it has done. Mount St. Helens has erupted many more times since that eruption had occurred. It seems like it was one of the biggest eruptions Mount St. Helens has ever had in it’s past eruptions! Mount St. Helens has been much more noticed since the eruption has happened. In my science book it says that scientists monitor volcanoes and I think that is a great and safe idea so that they can prepare for any eruptions and it saves many lives.
