Imagine a world where the Earth is polluted by ash and the temperature of the world is cooling by a large amount. All of the land around Yellowstone National Park disappeared because of the eruption that took place because of the magma chamber underneath Yellowstone. Yellowstone’s volcano will be an issue in the future of the United State. The questions are when will the volcano erupt and how can we be warned beforehand and what is going to happen to us after the eruption? Yellowstone has erupted three major times from 2.1 million years ago to 640 thousand years ago. If the Yellowstone volcano never erupted then it is because Yellowstone has behaved like it has for the past 140 years, there is very high odds that the volcano will never erupt because of the fact that volcanoes do die out (Plumer). The volcano could be the least of our worries if it never erupted but because of the path of the magma chamber, there is a possibility of a new volcano. The volcano’s magma chamber is said to be shifting in a northeastern direction that will eventually make the volcano die out.(Plumer) Some of the scientists like Christy Till that are concerned about the Yellowstone volcano made a new study where the volcano’s past history was combined with new techniques that will make like a countdown clock for the eruption of the volcano. This technique can be used to calculate the timescale between reheating and eruption of the magma chamber (Stopwatch). That doesn’t say that the volcano will erupt in the next 10 to 100 years, this clock only starts if the magma goes close to the surface.
