The main reason for this declaration comes from another declaration, the Declaration of Independence. “The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States” (Independence). Instead of focusing on what the people of America need, Jefferson only focuses on how Britain has wronged the colony leaders. In a rather childish manner, the subject was changed to avoid a topic that Jefferson did not want to discuss. The colony’s secession from Britain was carried out under the pretense of breaking away from the tyranny of Britain’s ruler, it was truly done so the colony leaders could become country leaders with the ability to create laws. Laws for the “greater good.” The laws created did in fact provide some relief from that over taxation terrors that Britain created, along with allowing some to realize that they had PTSD created by the fear of failing to do basic arithmetic and consequently paying more than should be paid, or being sent to the gallows. This was only done to butter the citizens up, as they say. “While evils are sufferable” (Independence). How does one define the evils that were mentioned? Evil is generally defined as the lack of morality. However, this is almost entirely based on point of view. What is evil changes from person to person, group to group. This is one of the reasons the American government will call some acts, “necessary evils.” This is a way to cover for the fact that the majority of the public would deem it as a heinous act.
