In What Ways Did Your Group Excel?

Decent Essays
1) In what ways did your group excel?

I believe my group exceled in multiple ways; the first way would be the fact that we all voiced our opinions, on what we wanted our presentation to look like. Another way would be that we didn’t have one specific members trying to take over and run the whole project. We all worked together, and put in effort.

2) What was the most difficult part of working in this group?

The most difficult part about working in this group is that I’ve never really worked in a group with any of the other members, so I didn’t know how they worked, or presented. It was also difficult trying to get the information from others when they were absent.

3) What will you do differently when you are faced with the next group project?

I also may have tried to get the group to rehearse the presentation.

4) Look at the collaboration rubric for this project. How would you judge your group, according to the rubric? How would you judge yourself?

I believe everyone in my group should get a high grade, or in the advanced column of the rubric. Everyone worked together nicely, and knew the information well.

5) Look at the agency rubric for this project. How would you judge your group, according to the rubric? How would you judge yourself? Address each area: Meet Benchmarks, Seek Feedback, Actively Participate, Growth Mindset.

I think my group, and I did excellent with the agency portion of the rubric. We all had our information ready when benchmarks were due. We all asked questions to make sure our slides, and/or information was good. All of our group members participated actively, and contributed daily. In our group everyone was open minded to anything that would help our presentation, or information be

In “Ascending Borders” the factors that brought Ronit and Marissa together as friends was that they were both Jewish. They were just two people who got along well and enjoyed each other company. They went to the same school and were attached at the hip. But the biggest factor that challenged their friendship was when Ronit wanted to return to her homeland in Israel. I think what ultimately separated them was the distance and them living different lives without each other.…

During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

On May 2nd, my group performed a story of Julio, from the book Underground America: Narratives of Undocumented Lives edited by Peter Orner. We then received feedback from our professor and other students about what we need to improve on. Since then, we have brainstormed ways to make our performance more effective. On May 18th, my class will combine our performances to create one long performance with our improved performance opening the piece. I will discuss how it was like working with a group, and My group worked well together, despite a few hiccups.…

When we introduced ourselves and what our concentrations were, it was easy to determine what roles and responsibilities we would take on. We worked individually on our tasks before meeting together and integrating everything into the final product. The problems that arose primarily concerned communication and scheduling group meetings.…

I feel as if the group project could have been done a lot better I felt as there was more of a focus on getting to know one another rather than focusing on the assessment. Currently I am not as confident on working with individuals that I don’t know so well as I was when we first started as I realized not everyone in the group had the same approach towards the task as I did especially in terms of prioritization despite this I believe I am more confident in showing leadership as Staci and Emily had other commitments I attempted to accommodate for this by contacting them and working out times when they were both free I believe this was a positive thing as normally in group assessments I have a tendency to rely on other people to make decisions like this and it was a positive experience delegating rather than receiving tasks. Overall working with Staci and Emily was fine as I have a more passive personality in group assignments it was a good learning experience for me a study has also shown that working as group positively influences and facilitates an exchange of knowledge(Shaw, Mitchell and Del Fabbro, 2015) this definitely occurred during our group work when it came to elaborating on social determinants I was able to help both Staci and Emily better understand them while Staci assisted me in learning about the stream factors overall I believe we compensated very well for each other’s gaps of knowledge . On the other side of the spectrum our fourth member Louis was difficult to work with as he contacted us the weekend before the assignment was actually ready to present and this caused a lot of stress and panic, after talking to Emily and Staci they definitely felt the same way about the situation with…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…

This group was a small discussion group facilitated by Ellen and myself. The purpose of this task group was to get opinions from the members about our topic. We carefully planned the structure for the group discussion by creating a nonthreatening environment, which allowed the members to feel free to talk openly and give their opinions. We encouraged the participants to engage in the conversation with the other members and facilitators. I felt we were structured and directed but also allowed expression from the members.…

For me, it’s not easy working with others because I like to take ownership of my work. It was a great experience to see the importance of the synergies that were created, as effective division of work and proper communication made a very big project manageable. Also, completely reading the instructions is an important lesson the we learned and can take anywhere. While we were confident about our material in the presentation, we didn’t follow the guidelines well, which hurt us. Trust is a huge part about working in groups, and I gained this trust through interaction with my team members, as well as success early on in the project.…

Overall, I was extremely happy with the effort my group put into this project. In terms of attending the group meetings, everyone was present and participated in the discussion. The first meeting took place on a Sunday afternoon at Baruch and the second meeting took place on a weeknight in the form of a Google Hangout. The times and places of these meetings alone displayed every group members’ commitment to the project, effort to accommodate for scheduling conflicts, and effort to ensure they are contributing their fair share to the group regardless the time or day of the week. At these meetings, we discussed ways to engage the crowd and critiqued each other’s slides and presentations.…
