Thus he went to the scene of the crime just to look around. Even though this scene was included into the film the explanation of what was going on was puzzling. It left the viewer to create there own thoughts of what the man was doing, whereas this scene left the reader with a clear picture of how the murder of this family was reaching other cities through publicity. Then there is Mr. Helm an older man that was not up to par with his health. He was a worker for Mr. Clutter, and showed the reader that Mr. Clutter cared for his workers. Mr. Helm talked about how he would get paid a few dollars in advance if he were low on money. Minor characters like these contribute to how the suspense builds for the reader, because it indicated that the Clutters were peoples people so who would want to kill them? Along with this in the film came the nonexistent illustration of the toll the murder took on one of the detectives on the case Mr. Dewey. In the film most of the research that was done on the case was shown with the whole detective group working together. When reading In Cold Blood it is quite apparent that Perry feeds on Dick’s affection, because he has no one left. Perry ‘s mood is easily triggered by memories from his scarring life. For example in the film when he and Dick are in the car driving and a truck is coming toward them, Perry begins to embrace himself for a crash since what happened to him on his motorcycle. Dick often refers to Perry as suga and baby. He also is always reassuring him with a sweet tone, thus Perry is swindled into trusting him. The relationship between Perry and Dick could be questioned to be closer than friends because n one scene when Dick is writing bad checks to get pants for Perry’s “wedding” he states that all they need is a ring and they would be good. Another underlying theme that is reoccurring is the significance of family, and how it affects a child. This is apparent when the detectives discuss the possibilities of the mental state of the murders while at the crime scene. The detectives discuss a report made six months prior to the Clutters murder about how four killers who killed without apparent motive like the one presented before them. They said the report stated how the killers felt physical inferior, sexually inadequate, or in their childhood a parent was missing. These things all described Perry and Dick both it
