I believe integrity in the professional world is very crucial and allows the person to have a good reputation in the professional world. Professional integrity means that you will strive to work in an honest manner and be a reliable person within your professional realm (Institute of New Zealand, 2015). My ethical ground work for integrity started with my father who was an honest and reliable worker all his career and I have always strived to live up to my father’s memories. Ensuring that you stand up for what is right takes courage but it also maintains your ethical philosophies. Courage means you set aside the fear of the unknown reprisal or displeasure of a superior but setting aside the fear of the unknown and standing up for what you believe in takes courage (Putnam, 2003). This I learned from a nurse that worked in the emergency room she always stood up for the rights and wellbeing of her patients. I saw her stand up to a multitude of superiors for the rights of her patients. The fact she stood up to doctors, the chief nursing officer and the administrator always amazed me but I always felt that she did the right thing and admired her courage. This is why I added courage to my list of my professional code of ethics because I have always tried to strive to do the right thing for my patients and stand up for their rights and mine ever since I saw her do what was right and earned the admiration of her
