Having a secure place to work also means that you allow people to be the way that they prefer as long as it does not impinge on anyone else's rights and it is not hurting another individual or patient. Allowing other people to practice their way of life is critical as what they want and do is ultimately up to them as it is their liveliness. Safety isn't just about making someone feel comfortable, it is also about time. Showing up and being on time to work is decisive and can make or bust the next or previous shift. When you experience issues with your co-workers it is constantly best to treat with it in a professional way and rely on established policy and training. The path that we treat our co-workers directly affects our patients! This is why it’s best to look at improving conflict resolution (Simpae 2013). Hence we don't make it about us and more about the state of affairs or a resolution that serves everyone’s greater good. “Bernard Mayer says that there are five major sources of conflict, communication, emotions, values, structure, and history” (Simpae 2013). It is easy to take in the situation about your own personal beliefs, but it will just cause more problems and further from a reciprocal understanding and resolution. One of the best things taught in nursing school is when a situation arises, it is key to check our own feelings about the situation first.
