In the article, I Had a Nice Time with You Tonight on the App, the writer Jenna Wortham states that social platforms have actually helped her maintain her relationships with other people who are long distance. She also supports her opinion by sharing her personal experience with her long distance boyfriend and by providing examples of social platforms, along with providing research studies. Lastly, I agree with Jenna Wortham’s article talking about the positivity of social media, because social platforms can help you maintain and enhance your relationship with other people. First, Wortham states that using apps such as Gchat, Skype, etc. has helped with maintaining a relationship with her long distance boyfriend. She even says that she had a lot of fun being in a trial test for a new social media application with her boyfriend. I support this statement from a family friend’s own personal experience. In addition, I’ll call him “H.” “H” was in …show more content…
In addition, Wortham includes that she was able to play long fun distance games with her boyfriend, such as texting, and calling each other. In 2017, we have applications such as Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and Whatsapp that can currently do all these things with more apps possibly coming soon. I support her argument, because some of these applications have even helped me communicate with family members of my own and even a temporary long distance relationship. For example, using Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger with family members from Mexico made it even more exciting to see them in person. In addition, using Snapchat and Instagram made a previous relationship slightly more entertaining by sending each other silly photos and communicating when we had to do long distance for about three months. Lastly, talking to someone you don’t see doesn’t always have to be boring and can even be

Sherry Turkle’s essay “Connectivity and Its Disconnects” talks about how online connections may make people feel closer to each other yet pull them further apart because of things people do like multitasking. She further talks about this disorientation and feeling “alone and together” when interacting with people online, because she is talking to them and seeing them without them actually being there. Turkle gives an example of her friend, Ellen, who talks to her grandmother over skype and feels guilty because she feels as if connecting with her grandmother was “another task among multitasking”. This results in false intimacy and fake relationships. The question of whether social media and online connections have positive or negative outcomes…
