When we got to the camp, the captain lined us up and called for cooks, butchers, clerks, interpreters, and other personnel needed to operate the facility. He also asked for two electricians. Only Walter Bankrath stepped forward. Again the officer shouted, “Are there any electricians here?” I said to myself, “This is my chance.” I stepped forward even though I was not qualified. I figured that with a skilled number one man, I would have no difficulty performing the job. As it turned out, I learned a lot from Walter about being an electrician.
