In her post Mobile Phones and Society – How Being Constantly Connected Impacts Our Lives, Laura Jerpi admits that cell phones and social media have “helped to stay more connected to family and friends than in the past” (Jerpi). Without the technology available to the world today, people would be limited to who someone could talk to and views of the world. Jerpia also says “I suppose I’m in much more constant contact with individuals, getting frequent updates” (Jerpi). Through the use of electronics, our phones, and the internet, people in the middle of Kansas can learn about a crisis happening on the other side of the world. This opens up new communities that no one never knew existed. A community is opened not only in our country, but around the world. Sending a text is easier and faster than sending an email or calling someone on the phone. More communications are opened up and it is a faster way of talking to someone. Ira Hyman, in his article Cell Phones are Changing Social Interaction, poses the question “Do you have conversations with text messages?” What Hyman trying to ask is if a person would respond as they would to the text, not as they would to the person? Sending a text message does not have as much meaning as a phone call or a face-to-face conversation because the sender’s tone can be miscommunicated or lost within the text. With the invention of emoji’s it makes it slightly easier to get the tone of the text across, but it still is hard. Hyman also states at the end of the article: “This isn’t addiction. This is social interaction.” This generation has been looked down on by the generations before them for the amount of time that this generation spend on our phones. This generation are not ignoring the world around us for our cellphones. This generation are not trying to say that people this age are more advanced because of our cellphones. This generation are not addicted to our cellphones, we like the stronger social interactions that
