We see this when Atticus tells Alexandra the news, “Tom’s dead” Aunt Alexandra brought her hands to her mouth” (265) she is astonished and devastated by what happened. “Didn’t they try to stop him? Didn't they give him any warning?” Alexandra’s voice shook” (265) This is evidence that she realized she was only thinking skin deep and anyone white or black who is innocent does not deserve to be shot down with 18 shots.She is also starting to realize that scout is not going to conform to her feminine ways and when scout gets into trouble she sees how it important for scout to be herself. “Aunt Alexandra's fingers trembled as she unwound the fabric and wire from around me.”are you okay darling?” she asked as she worked me free.” (291) she shows that she is worried about scout. Aunt Alexandra brought scout her overalls “here put these on darling” (292) She didn't even think twice about scout not wearing a dress which was always super important to Alexandra.
Throughout To Kill A Mockingbird the sexism, racism, and prejudice seem to diminish for Aunt Alexandra. She realizes the vast amount of prejudice is pointless. she sees that scout is strong and smart even if she is not wearing a beautiful dress or acting lady like. Scout it going to be scout and Alexandra has accepted that. She realizes that Tom Robinson, although black, was an innocent man who did not deserve to be senselessly
