I think Calpurnia is a better mother figure for the reasons I am going to be listing. Calpurnia practically lives with the the Finch’s so she has a lot of daily interactions with Jem and Scout. Here are some examples of Calpurnia's interactions. Scout was feeling very sad because Jem’s getting older and thinks he is the boss of her, so Calpurnia said “Baby, I just can’t help that Mister Jem’s growing up. He’s gonna want to be off to himself a lot now, doin’ whatever boys do, so you just come in the kitchen whenever you feel lonesome” (Lee 132). Another interaction would be when Calpurnia brought Jem and Scout to her church. Jem and Scout have never been in a colored church before so it was there first time and they found it quite amusing, especially …show more content…
For example Calpurnia was teaching Jem and Scout how most black people can not read. Calpurnia also has her punishments for the kids. Calpurnia had bathed scout for church, for Scout she bathed her roughly. Calpurnia had told Scout that she needed to look nice for church, she told Scout “ I don’t want anybody sayin’ I don’t look after my children’’ (Lee 134). On that same day Calpurnia yelled at Jem because his tie did not match what he was wearing. Jem found this crul. In church Calpurnia “Sh-h’’ the kids because they were asking so many questions about church. I think Aunt Alexandra is a bad mother figure for the reasons I’m listing. Her are some of Aunt Alexandra's daily interactions. Aunt Alexandra is staying with them for a long time now. The first thing Aunt Alexandra said when she walked in the door was “Put my bag in the front bedroom, Calpurnia’’ (Lee 144). Scout is not a big fan of her at all, one day Aunt Alexandra asked Scout to come in the room and speak to the ladies. When Scout came to the door Aunt Alexandra always looked at her as if she hated her request. One day Scout was stopped again and Aunt Alexandra practically bragged about Scout's cousin Lily

For example, in chapter 30 when she and Jem are walking home from the pageant, Scout yells out to the darkness. She does this to taunt Cecil Jacobs, who is believed to be the one following them. This differs in To Kill a Mockingbird in such that Aunt Alexandra bosses around scout to help her grow up the best she can be. For example, “Aunt Alexandra met us and nearly fainted when Calpurnia told where we were” (Lee 282). This highlights the fact that Aunt Alexandra genuinely cares about the kids and the things she does is out of love. She shows that being a lady means being respectful unlike Hilly. The role of women is shown very differently in these two pieces of literature.…

Aunt Alexandra, who stays with the Finch Family for the betterment of Scout, infuriates Scout because Scout’s pants are symbolic of her independent personality. Besides her boyishness, Scout is extremely intelligent. For instance, she reads at an advanced level at home with the help of Atticus, which is disallowed once discovered by Ms. Caroline. However, she has an apparent lack of empathy when she fails to understand the reason for Walter Cunningham’s boorishness at the dining table when she invites him for lunch. She rudely says to Calpurnia, “He would probably have poured it into his milk glass had I not asked what the Sam Hill he was doing.”…
