The Boston Marathon Bombing Effects on Society The Boston Marathon is one of the oldest marathons, in which people from all around the world gather in Boston, Massachusetts, to run a 26 mile race and receive the feeling of accomplishment as their hard work and training pay off. Instead, the Boston Marathon, 2013, turned out to be one of the most devastating and gruesome events that this country has ever experienced, when two bombs were set off by terrorists. The Boston Marathon was a horrific tragedy that drastically changed society by showing unity and pride in our nations country and improved our countries general medical and tragedy procedures in case of disaster. The day of the bombing included many details and statistics that led to mass destruction in Boston. Monday, April 15, 2013,( Powell, Hickson,Amsbary. 187) was the day were 27,000 runners came to Boston to participate in the annual Boston marathon. Besides the runners there were 400 reporters, 700,000 to 1 million spectators watching the race, and about 75 emergency personnel and other authority figures. The second suspect was not in custody and was on the run(Bauman and Witter, page 62). The police had retrieved footage of the second suspect at the marathon because of an eye witness being able to identify him. The eyewitness recalls the man looking very suspicious and out of place, he also remembers the man placing a backpack by a guardrail and walking away from it. Police had discovered that this was backpack that had the bomb inside of it. The eyewitness was Jeff Bauman, he was a huge help in the investigation and helped lead to the identification of the
