This handle meant of course that the band could be certain of a perennial appeal to several generations of music fans over several decades. This band always was perfectly synonymous with Southern California, and the album highlights everything that is so memorable about this golden US state.
The tracks featured have been rightly described as, iconic, unforgettable and classic, and none of these words are poorly chosen, because from that wonderful, opening guitar riff of the title track right with those beautifully cynical and vivid lyrics right through to the unforgettable and simply epic finale, this entire album is a force of nature that will leave you humming along contentedly.
Hotel California said so much as a single and was undoubtedly a brilliant masterpiece of a song. It was the third chart-topping single for the band and deservedly won the 1977 Grammy for Record of the Year.
