Charlene is a Social Worker from Massachusetts. She is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). Charlene has two jobs, one is working at a Hospital and the other is working for a Police department. Where she works three 10 hour days. During the interview we focused more on the social work she does at the hospital. Charlene first learned that she wanted to be a social worker. When she was younger, she was part of a family where there were 11 kids. They lived in Maine and money was not available for her family. Burnout is when someone who has become very physically and emotionally tired after doing a difficult job for a long time (Webster). For this question, Charlene gave two answers. For anyone dealing with burnout, they should practice self-care and have a great diet. You should also exercise, achieve superb rest, and lastly balance your work and family life. When balancing your life you should remember to leave work-related work at work and when you are home, you should focus on your family. With a sense of humor she had said: “If you think you know everything leave the field because you do not, you learn every day.” For Charlene, she needs to “work more on self-care. For example, exercising and eating right; but I do love to spend time with excellent friends and play with my kids.” Though she enjoys it, she does have a hard time balancing work and home, she sometimes she cannot help bringing work home with her and that causes her to neglect her family life. During the interview she quoted someone who said, name unknown, “You cannot serve from an empty vesicle” and she agreed with them all the way. The best way to make the feeling of a burnout go away, she said: “I feel good when someone gets the help they need, it kind of refuels
