Honor Biology Personal Statement

Improved Essays
Up to the elementary school, my cumulative treasure of science was pertaining mostly theories but hands-on practical started during my Honor Biology labs. The smell of formaldehyde didn't hold me back, to dissect a preserved frog to learn about frog's internal organs. As the human and frog have similarity in their organs' layout. I nailed arms and legs wide open and my scalpel made an incision along the midline of a frog's body from pectoral gland to the pelvis. The entire cavity, filled with organs, showed up. I was amazed to see internal organs with my naked eyes. The next dissections were a cow eyeball, to observe its anatomical structures, and an earthworm to learn about its circulatory system. Even in elementary school at annual Talent Show, I spoke about the solar system and displayed a model with rotating planets.
My passion and past experiences made me pass entrance test at Troy High School, where the Honor Biology class allotted during my ninth grade, and by maintaining a grade I was allowed to have AP Biology during my Junior Year. Biology lab enhanced my practical learning where I observed mitosis in developing embryonic cell of white fish, and plant cell both in Zea Mays Leaf (monocot) and Syringa leaf (eudicot). I keenly observed a dissected Pig's brain in the AP Biology lab, its anatomical structure influenced my passion.

The accelerated medical program at Brown University assures me my definite future. For students applying to medical school through the traditional approach generally, recommend a minimum GPA of 3.5. Though, to be competitive at most medical schools the higher the GPA, is better. Having a relatively modest required GPA for BS/MD programs allows me to focus more on actually learning the subjects and less on the grades. Personally, for me, accelerated program is the only option which gives me clarity of my path and positive impact on my

The common perspective regarding animal science is often poisoned by false notions. Further, while ‘poisoned’ may be a misnomer, the reality of this phenomenon is one in which prospective animal scientists have rose-tinted visions of grandeur paired with little acknowledgement of the training and tasks associated with these ventures. Additionally, due to this apparent consensus, it is easy to conceptualize an image ripped straight from a Fisher Price playset when assessing the field of animal science- ripe with its clean-cut, healthy plastic animals easily managed by children ages two and up.…

As a food science major with an interest in nutritional sciences the regulation of lipid synthesis would be a comprehensive topic that would allow me to develop my research abilities in a setting applicable to both my major and my interests. Using molecular biology and chemical processes, assisting in determining what mechanism is used to how phosphorylated PA phosphatase would allow me to learn both new lab techniques and new concepts in the fields of microbiology and biochemistry. My interests in food science have always been with either food microbiology or food chemistry with some interest in sensory science. I hope to explore all of these fields of food science during my time here at Rutgers to aid me in finding what I love to do. Along…

I expanded this interest by volunteering at a hospital and attending various health academies. In the summer of junior year, I attended the Health Leaders Summer Academy held at UCF where I learned of the integral role science plays in our bodies, on earth, and in life beyond earth. The same summer I volunteered at Florida Hospital and I am currently volunteering at Orlando Regional Medical Center. While volunteering at Florida Hospital, I truly saw the unpredictability of life when I encountered a man having a heart attack on the stairwell. Like the weather, I never know what will happen from one moment to the next.…

Ever since I was a child I wanted to help people and didn’t realize how, until I stepped foot in my 7th grade science class. The day still replays in my mind like it was yesterday. I was walking into a new school, with new people, and I felt like the last leaf stuck on the tree, waiting to fall in place where I belonged, but oddly enough, this one basic anatomy and physiology class made me feel welcomed. What made me feel welcomed wasn’t really the teacher or the students in there, but the environment of that particular branch of science. What was so amazing about that side of science was there was always more to learn and more importantly you were learning about yourself.…

I have possessed this interest throughout my entire life, but I became conscious of it in high school. I found myself reading the pages of my biology textbook intensely trying to understand how glucose was transformed to ATP within cells. I was equally interested in chemistry and how chemical reactions took place. One thing that particularly caught my mind, though, was when my anatomy and physiology class observed the dissection of a cadaver. I remember being in awe of the complexity of the human body; meanwhile some of my classmates became ill.…

I initially got into this particular type of science after watching many crime shows, some being Criminal Minds and Forensic Files. I decided I wanted to learn more into the anatomy so at Central State Hospital I took a week course during the summer before seventh grade and I learned more about how most parts of the body and how some things can affect your body and some medicines since then. Recently this summer right before eighth grade started, I went to the Mütter Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There I learned even more about how many different diseases and how the size of a person can affect how you have to live and what will occur.…

When I was in high school, I noticed how my grandfather used to heal some sicknesses; such as diabetus by using the natural products; for instance, extracts from regional plants. I remember when my grandmother was diagnosed as diabetus patiant and how the diabetus affected her lifestyle; and how many medications were described to her and how she was unsatisfied about the changing in her lifestyle. I remember how my grandfather used one of plant extracts from traditional folk medicine in my country to control her blood glucose level. That approach of treatment fascinated me and encouraged me to become curious about what the dibetus is, and what the mechanism of this disease, and how I can understand the mechansm of this disease in biological system. After high school, I was wondering about the major that is dealing with and meeting my interest toward Pharmacological and toxicological sciences until my grandfather who was the godfather for me at that time encouraged me to…

My earliest memory of science is from 5th grade in Mr. Kern’s class. I remember we had a unit on sea creatures, and we got to take care of and study fish and crawfish. I loved this activity because it was so hands on and we were the caretakers of the creatures, so we did all the work. It was really our own experiment, not just something out of a book. We all loved coming into class in the morning and running to see our new pets, and one day I noticed my crawfish had lost its shell.…
