Tom Thomson, the inspiration, the artist, and the mystery. On the 5th of August 1977, Thomson was born in Claremont, Ontario, Canada; the country he would soon leave many unsaid words, breathtaking paintings, and a true Canadian identity.
Born and raised amongst the beautiful landscapes and waters by Georgian Bay, Thomson naturally formed a deep connection to nature, and admired the beauty of wilderness. His victorian upbringing brought him love and interest on the arts, design, and drawing. However, no one, not even himself had pictured a career in the arts. As a hobby, Thomson would often draw caricatures for his friends. Throughout his teenage years, Thomson missed a large portion of highschool due to a chronic illness, which brought him closer to drawing and painting the stunning trees and landscapes which surrounded him.

The subject matter of this work, is a beautiful landscape, with a focal point of a lopsided tree. This tree has one center branch which is the thickest, with about 10 oddly shaped leaves. In the background of this painting, there are a lot of smooth clouds close to filling the sky. The tree is placed above a lake, which consists of a yellow to blue tone. The tree is sitting on a cluster of rocks, which are quite large in size, along with some green, red, yet majority grey tones. This painting is Thomson’s most recent, therefore it is said to be the ‘best’. Although, this painting doesn't stand out is because it is the youngest painting, it is the best due to the fact that it makes people think about it.
