Hemangiomas develop over three stages:
1. Proliferation
2. Latency
3. Involution.
The first stage appear mostly in the starting of three months of life.it appears about 0.5cm to 20cm in diameter. In the starting period the lesion is more prone to bleeding.
Mostly the cycle of hemengioma start and grow within six months of life and then enter in slow phase which is called quiescent stage where it remain grow slowly for about completion of year and then its automatically start to shrink and disappear called involution phase.
In the last hemengioma will reduce its size. It was supposed that this benign tumor will improve 10% every year but new studies suggest that involution phase reached up to 3-4 years of age. (10). Majority …show more content…
Depending upon the location of hemengioma it worsen the situation like if hemengioma s in larynx than it result in difficulty in breathing, if it appear near eye than it affect the soft tissues and causes occlusion of eye (19). Very seldom large hemangiomas burden the heart to supply oxygen in growing lesions and sometime bone erosion occur when it appear near bone.
The most common complaint about hemengioma is psychological effect that is due to person’s disfiguring appearance. Problem starts when child become school going. When hemengioma appear near visible area like nose lip face or head that it produce psychological disturbance to the child and risk of injury also increases so therefore it is consider to treat hemengioma before child start his school period.
The most complicated hemengioma is PHACES syndrome which appears on head and neck region. Sometime screening require to diagnose hidden hemengioma like in case of liver hemengioma in infants(20) …show more content…
It reduces the size of hemengioma by inhibiting TNF. 5% cream applied every alternate day for approximately 5 months. The advantages are its safety and reduced irritation(33).
5• Vincristine:
It is being effective in vascular anomalies and IH (34).But its use is limited due to toxicity. Dose: 0.05-1.5 mg/m2 in 3-4 doses for about 3 weeks.
Adverse effects:
Neurotoxicity, GI discomfort, peripheral neuropathy
6• Laser therapy:
Laser therapy are effective in reducing mark and size of hemengioma mostly pulsed dye laser have role in hemangioma management (35). It is increasing healing process.
7• Surgical therapy:
Surgical procedure in hemangiomas is very seldom indicated when tumor fail to respond to medicine and also be used in removing of residual of hemengioma which damaged
