Adnan's Testimony

Superior Essays
The courts got it all wrong; they jailed the wrong man! In 1999, a student at Woodlawn High School was accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend. His name was Adnan Syed; he was accused, tried, and convicted of murdering a fellow student. The body of Hae Min Lee, an eighteen-year-old senior, was found in Leakin Park. When the state wrongly convicted him for Hae Min Lee’s murder, the prosecutors used testimonies from suspects that were inconsistent and they attempted to vilify him to make him out to look like a bad kid.
As I said before, the state 's argument against Adnan was based on inconsistent testimonies. This unreliable testimony occurred mainly with Jay who was Adnan 's weed dealer. Adnan was known to smoke weed with him often. When Adnan

They took testimonies from family friends and his friends who said he was a stellar student. They stated that he was always leading prayers in the mosque as well as having a job as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician); on the other hand, they also made him out as living the life of a “criminal.” They said that there were several instances where they were able to tell he was a killer such as his ignoring his parents and getting a girlfriend despite his mother’s wishes, smoking weed, and Adnan apparently being obsessive over Hae. The prosecutors made Adnan sound as if he was extremely obsessive over Hae by stating how often he would go over to check up on Hae regardless of what she was doing. In Adnan’s culture and the region of Pakistan where his parents are from there is no such thing as dating; people are either single or married. This made him seem as if he would be heartbroken after she broke up with him. Since Adnan would go to check up on Hae, her best friend Aisha said on Serial that she believed he was kind of obsessive with her. When the prosecutors were doing their best to convict Adnan, they stated that he had killed Hae because he was so guilt ridden that he went against his parents and his religion. He wasn’t going to let a girl dishonor him like that. In Hae’s diary, she mentions that Adnan had called Hae the devil in the past. When the prosecutor …show more content…
This is a debauched reason to convict him, though. For Adnan, the day Hae disappeared was just a regular day. Since nothing out of the ordinary occurred, Adnan had dismissed the day and virtually morphed it with every other day. Think back 6 weeks and remember a random day within the week. The majority of people would not be able to remember and would most likely have a mix up of history. Some people could say that my argument against Jay is the same argument that the prosecutor had against Adnan. However, Adnan’s story remained relatively the same except for a few discrepancies, Jay’s story had multiple discrepancies and was prone to changing back and forth. This is also why I don’t think Jay should have been chosen to give a truthful testimonial. Many people may also say that Adnan was guilty because of the phone records. This can be proved wrong because today in court cases telephone records and which cell towers are pinged for a phone call are used more often to describe where a person was not rather than to prove where a person was. This is due to the fact that cell phone towers don’t always work in the sense that they cover a certain radius of ground or else there would be cell phone towers all over the place. The prosecutors stated that Adnan wasn’t at the library checking his email during the period of time in which he would have killed Hae because no one

Certainly the jurors thought it was a crime of passion, although the judge did not think it was not a good motive. The jurors during this case were as quick as lightning and convicted Adnan of first-degree murder, in under two hours. How can a jury convict someone for first degree murder in under two hours, especially not having enough evidence to prove Adnan did kill Hae? All they had was Jay’s testimony, which brings me to my second reason as to why Adnan is innocent of the murder of Hae Lee.…

Again, this was the claim by the State that Adnan had to have killed Hae and been with his phone by 3:32, which was when the Nisha call was made. Well, that’s entirely inconsistent with the story by both Jay and Jenn that Jay was still at Jenn’s house until at least 3:40 p.m. And if we look at Jay specifically, this isn’t simply a matter of, well, maybe he was wrong about the time. Jay very specifically says, “I was waiting for a call at 3:30 p.m. That call didn’t come ’til later.”…

Why would Rae Concha intentionally kill Jason Johnson, his best friend with his Adderall? It is a known fact that Jason died, and that Adderall and alcohol was found in his body but was it really Rae Concha that caused it? Dr. Casey Burke testified that Jason’s abuse of alcohol caused cardiac arrest, killing him. He got all of the information to get to this conclusion from the autopsy that Dr. Ricki Sanchez did, and from Jason’s previous medical records. If there is an issue with his examination, it would be due to inaccurate information from Dr. Sanchez’s autopsy.…

Adnan was convicted of murdering Hae Min Lee,who is also, Adnan’s ex. Adnan still claimed to be innocent, but he remembered the day of the murder to be a “regular day.” Jay’s inconsistencies, Asia McClain’s letter, and Adnan’s reaction to his breakup with Hae are all pieces of evidence that help support that Adnan was wrongfully convicted for the murder of Hae Min Lee. Jay was a high school friend of Adnan’s that “witnessed” the alleged…

Even with all of this in mind, the court sees him as the main suspect and is not dissuaded by his normal persona. They pin him as Hae Min Lee’s killer by using the jealous boyfriend stereotype. It is also bad for his case when there are phone records and accounts of him acting strange on the day of her murder. Jay seems to be the only one that has a story that is sound enough to have Adnan as the main suspect.…

To begin, Adnan is guilty because Jay’s story lines up with the call records from Adnan’s phone. January 13, 1999, starts off as a fairly normal day, but Adnan ditches school and hangs out with Jay. Adnan lent Jay his phone and car when he went back to school; later on, he called Jay to pick him up from a Best Buy parking lot where he killed Hae. The calls from Adnan’s phone help the investigators learn where he may have been that day. Without them, Adnan simply “can’t remember,” thus leading investigators to figure out where…

His heroic testimony against his good friend is the main reason the state was able to correctly convict Adnan. In his sworn statement, Jay affirms Adnan killed Hae and that he saw her dead body. He tells investigators, “all [he could] see [was that] Hae’s lips [were] all blue, and she [was] pretzeled up in the back of the trunk. And she [was] dead.” This descriptive account of Jay’s first interaction with the deceased corps is very clear evidence that he was a witness to this disgusting act.…

    Making A Murderer Analysis

Judicial murder made by inequity legal system In the month after “Making a Murderer” premiered on Netflix, more than 129,000 Americans signed a petition to pardon Avery and Dassey for their convictions to the murder of Halbach and in the book ‘in cold blood’ written by Truman Capote, the two murderers were treated by ignoring the mental problem influence of theirs, they stayed in prison for five years and were finally performed death penalty. After reading the book and watching the TV show, I think these crimes sufficiently prove that there is a fundamental inequity at work in countless branches of legal system. Making a Murderer tells a story about the life of Steven Avery, who was convicted of rape in 1985 and imprisoned for 18 years, despite…
