In High School we were sadly not taught about the May 4th shooting and as a High School history teacher that is something that I want to teach my students because it is such a big thing. At DKS is the first time I actually heard the story. A boy was very knowledgeable on the topic. I was told that the US guardsmen shot and killed 4 people and 1, a girl, was simple walking to class. He told us that prior to this date that there was ruckus due to a biker gang and they threatened a guardsmen and the guardsmen thought it was one of the students, however, at the May 4th center I learn that the guardsmen weren’t even at Kent state yet until after that date.…

The Lesson in Quitting For the past 7 years of my life, swimming has played a huge role. Growing up, I had always enjoyed being in the water, and was one of the odd kids that genuinely enjoyed swimming lessons, no bribes required (thinking about it, I wish I had some of those kids in the lessons I teach now). Overtime, it began to feel less like a passion and more like an obligation; something I had committed to that was too late to stop. I was afraid to quit, afraid to disappoint, and trying to be dedicated to a sport I had lost interest in made me start to hate it. This year, I finally decided to drop the sport, and am now embracing the huge change it has had in my life.…

Gun problem solution. “Bump stocks” are not the only problem on the gun market, electronic triggers are another loophole on getting around the semi automatic weapon rule. Both of these attachments are legal and do not require special licenses or permits, but this should not be the case, both of these useless and harmful things should be banned from the market unless you have a class 3 weapons license. Both writers mentioned bump stocks but neither seemed to realize that there are many different loopholes in the gun community. Gunsmiths can simply rework the internal parts to make the weapon fully automatic as they please, this is illegal but that does not mean it does not still happen.…
