In other words, violence is not something you are born with but rather learned though personal experiences. In this paper I will be giving a literature review of two different studies, the first article looks at the misconceptions that associate with mass shootings. The second article is from the FBI crime statistics page online. The article contains statistics that have been collected on active shooters between…
Columbine The tragedy among youth, April 20, 1999; two troubled young men lash out their rage and depression on the high school they were cast out from; Columbine High, Littleton, Colorado. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were the two adolescents that committed this heinous crime. Over all, these murders had caused thirteen deaths and twenty one, brutal injuries. Although, most of the deaths and injuries were by gunshot, many explosives were also used. The explosive were manufactured by Klebold and there were roughly ninety nine of these devices planted throughout the campus.…
Article of the Week #4 In the Article of the Week, TheWeek.com discusses the topic of “America’s Killing Cotagion” and goes into about 3 general catagories; Are more mass shootings are happening, What drives people to do these terrible things, and How we can try to stop such tragic events from happening. Some main points that were discussed were mostly just that from about 2011 to modern days, the amount of mass attacks have increased to about three times as much. Three times as much might not seem like a big deal, but imagine 20 people dying every single year just because of a shooting. This number doesn’t even include the people who were injured or deeply traumatised by this experience.…

Eric was a psychopath while Dylan was suicide it huge role one that. Eric and Dylan have made a statement about their parents were not at fault, they the ones who is not responsible but themselves. Make them feel like they were valuable for just a second.…
Sandy Hook Shooting Conspiracies The shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary was a tragic event, with twenty six dead and only questions remaining, it’s hard not to sympathize with the families of those lost. There is a movement, however, that claims the shooting was false (Spaeth). The shooting is believed to have been staged in order to pave the way for stricter gun control (Salazar). Conspiracy theorists, calling themselves Truthers, have presented evidence to support their claims numerous times in attempts to convince the general population.…
Active Shooter Procedures Since the beginning of January 2018, there have been multiple school shootings across America. Shootings are becoming more prevalent, and although active shooter drills are being implemented to prepare for such instances, are they actually effective? Is there more that can be done to defend against these violent acts within schools? Yes, students and teachers can both be more prepared when encountering these terrifyingly violent situations.…
The op-ed piece “Mass shootings are an American problem. There’s an American solution.” was written in response to the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. On September 30, 2017, in Las Vegas, Nevada, a gunman opened fire on attendees at a country music concert, killing 58 and injuring well over 500. Published just four days later, at a time when emotions are heightened and people are searching for answers to the questions of how and why such a horrific event could occur, Chris Murphy appeals to that very emotion in this piece.…
Mainstream Media is Cultivating Killers I believe that mainstream media is encouraging and enabling mass shooters. One reason this assertion is correct is that these mass shooters primary purpose is to become famous, be remembered and go out bigger and better than their predecessors. Look at the media coverage of any of the mass shooting in the last thirty years. They plaster their picture and name all over the TV of every station for days and days.…
However terrible to say, it is no wonder why people have become accustomed to hearing tragedies of such caliber on the news. Of course, that doesn’t make it any less upsetting or case for finding closure faster than in other situations. What it does justify is the use of background checks; not being allowed to “purchase firearms without first presenting the proper government papers” (Etzioni), as mentioned earlier, and extra security measures, even if taken on “law-abiding citizens” (Garfinkel) which should not be received so sensitively because of their purpose of “[enhancing] the common good” (Etzioni). The United States we know today reported Columbine to have been “the first mass shooting in nearly eight years that killed 10 or more people”, which is clearly different than the United States of the past where “after 1999, seven years would pass without one. Today, such gaps are unthinkable.…

Following recent events (involving multiple mass shootings and attacks) many people think that the laws on guns in the United States of America need to be much tighter. I am one of these people. At the moment, as soon as you cross the US border, you have the legal right to purchase yourself a fire arm for personal protection, sport and (apparently, in some unfortunate cases) carrying out an unreasoned mass shooting. This document serves to explain some of the holes in the American legal system. While my foremost problem is not with guns themselves, it is a fact that they are, in the first place, an inherent danger and owning them, in the first instance, causes more trouble than they’re worth.…
The murder rate in the united states is high because there are to many guns but because there are to many gang members. It’s going to be very hard to stop there gun supply because of how many gangs there are. They are comparing all the countries that have lots of war. Cutting off their gun supply will make them less harmful and we could get control of the gangs. Gang members having way to much control of the guns and and do anything they want to.…
Another mass shooting that occurred long before this one was also just as devastating. On April 20, 1999, two teenage boys one Dylan Klebold, 17, and Eric Harris, 18, woke up that day knowing that they were about to commit a mass murder at their Columbine High School and that it was going to be their last day. Before the shooting the pair’s original plan was to blow up the school with their homemade explosives but when that didn’t work out, that’s when they started to go on a shooting rampage. Investigators found out that both shooters arrived in different cars and walked into the school and placed two duffel bags which contained “20-pound propane bomb” in each which was set to explode at 11:17 a.m. According to an article, at approximately…
Because of the media not expressing key details this leaves people off with not enough knowledge of what went on and make a horrible judgement to try to kill the person who caused the mass shooting.…
Mass shootings are just one of those things you don't remember hearing about much as a kid, but now seems inescapable, like people talking about Alexander Hamilton. In the past few years, mass shootings have become so common (over 300 in 2015) and so uniform in their execution, many folks simply stop wondering why they happen in the first place. But, one of the most common underlying causes that often gets overlooked is misogyny. A deeply ingrained hatred and fear of women has set off some of the most well known, crazed gunmen.…
