One point made in the article is that the Kellogg cereal company cut work hours from eight hours to six hours in 1930. The article quotes “To be sure, Kellogg did not intend to stop making a profit. But the company leaders argued that men and women would work more efficiently on shorter shifts, and with more people employed, the overall purchasing …show more content…
However, is that really enough? That may be enough for some people who just need money for spending, but what about for people that need the money to get by? I mean, there are some minimum wage workers that really need the money to pay the rent or buy diapers or needs for their babies. They work hours and hours a week and the check goes to rent, baby needs, and various other bills. That would barely leave enough for the person to use as spending money, or even to buy groceries. I’m aware that the minimum wage is fair, but other people may not be. However, that’s just how the country is. I’m a bit concerned on if it will be raised or maybe even lowered when the new president is elected. If it were to be lowered, where would that put the people mentioned earlier? They would have to take on more hours or maybe even get a second job. Another point is that when you go to McDonalds, Burger King, or another place of the fast food category, it’s almost all the same people working. At least, that’s what I’ve experienced. We need it. It’s a huge need. We need it for living supplies such as shelter, food, and water. Even those can be really expensive. If you don’t pay for those necessities, you don’t receive them. No water bill? City turns off your water. No electric bill? No electricity. As stated earlier, we as a society need to come together and help eachother out every now and then. Even if you feel like you already have enough money and don’t need to help anyone but yourself. It really doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor. You can still help others and they will most likely help you in return. I feel as if we as a society are so harshly separated by how much money we have. I don’t feel that we should. Everyone is born equal, everyone should live equally. However, I know that will probably never happen, especially with the presidential candidates that have a chance of becoming president. I personally think that if Trump becomes president, society as we know it is doomed. That isn’t the point, though. The point is that money can define us all. It all depends on how much we have. We could either be rich snobs that feel like they should get everything because they have a bit more money, or we could be just normal people that work to live and get by. Maybe, we should all be normal and equal, instead of being so harshly
