The internet eliminated communication barriers and allowed cultures and people to reach one another infinitely more quickly and efficiently. Ideas and information were spread across the planet at rates previously unimaginable. For the first time in history, attendees of meetings did not have to all be present at a single physical location – the previous method is exceedingly foreign to me, as someone born in 1993. As Stephen Tansey said, “Global productivity should soar as the latest innovations and techniques become available more rapidly and can be utilized by a better-educated workforce. …the spread of mutual knowledge and increased communication will enhance international understanding.” …show more content…
Our societies, especially the U.S., added a hefty amount of internet usage and television to their daily lives. Due to that fact, they have had to decrease time spent on other leisurely activities and some say that this increased technology has affected our society negatively – such as the weakening of family bonds, community life, and creativity (Tansey). However, I do believe it is apparent that a long-term relationship, whether it be romantic or just keeping in contact with family and friends, should have benefited from the new technology. Furthermore, translation devices on the internet and computers would help to breakdown the language barrier between countries and even individuals of different backgrounds within a single
