In Leading for a Lifetime, Bennis distinguished between two “eras” that he called Geezers and Geeks. The Geezer era lasted from 1945-1955 they are now mostly seventy years or older. The main event that impacted the Geezers perspective was World War two. WWII involved most of the world and created a huge social change within America. While most American men were away fighting in the war, everyone within the United States were doing “their part” to help with the war; women began working outside of the home and rationing of materials needed for the soldiers. The Geeks era lasted from 1991-2000 they are not mostly under the age of thirty-five. The main event that impacted the Geeks perspective was the popularity of television. The commonality of television allowed the world to become a smaller place, it allowed people to experience more from the comfort of their home. The Mumford model has five components; leadership outcomes, carrier experiences, competencies, individual attributes, and environmental influences. Leadership outcome skills is based on the performance results of a task and effective problem solving to address issues that arise when completing tasks. Carrier experiences is the experience you have had as a leader, this ideology focuses on the concept the more experience as a leader the better the leader you will become. This stims for the idea of learning from your mistakes to improve. Competencies are skills that account for the effective performance, this includes problem solving, social judgement skills and knowledge. Individual attributes are what leadership skills and knowledge that attributes to the individual’s identity.
