Daisy is the first lady Jay Gatsby falls in love with in real (he doesn`t want to just "achieve" her). They meet a few times and she falls in love with him too. She promises him that she will wait for him and they will marry when he returns from the army. But...Daisy is a kind of person who has a deep need to be loved and that is why she does not want to wait for Jay Gatsby and marries Tom Buchanan. As for Gatsby, he really loves her and wants to marry her and he would marry her if not the army.
When Gatsby returns from the army and finds out that Daisy has “cheated” on him and he wishes to “achieve” her. He doesn’t love her, he just wants to get a new “item” in his “girls` collection”. If Gatsby loved her really he would let her live her life with Tom and her child and now he is just destroying her family. He wants her to tell Tom that she has not love him ever, but she actually has, at least for a moment. But she loved him because if she had not love him she would not have married him. And Gatsby does not believe that her child exists, he thinks it is not real…
Now Nick is right that he has refused Gatsby to organize their meeting , and according to that it is possible to say that he really cares about his cousin
