In this case, an interdisciplinary team has recently diagnosed Chester and recommends early intervention services in school and at home. Best practice in this case requires a wraparound approach that “incorporates person-centered planning in its emphasis on developing support plans that are needs driven rather than service-driven” (Carr et al., 2002, p. 6). Wraparound promotes self-determination based on the principle of normalization and includes support from experts, such as physicians, clinicians, behavior analysts, special educators, speech pathologists, and occupational therapists as well as individuals in the family-system, including parents, siblings, and care-givers. The rationale for interdisciplinary teamwork is supported extensively in literature on Positive Behavior Support (Carr et al., 2002) as well as behavioral medicine (O’Brian & Carhart, 2011).
