Four Year College Analysis

Improved Essays
My journey to victory is getting into a four year college. The type of college I would want to get into being, a college that is easy to get around to, to explore different organizations, to be able to have a wide variety of food on campus and off campus and lastly to have a good quality of education. A second victory would be getting a degree from a four year university.
I have had many people who have been a great help in achieving my victory. Each semester that I had at Schoolcraft College I would meet with Chris Richardson to evaluate where I’m at in my career path and to discuss classes to take for the next semester. One semester which happened to be the summer semester of my second year, He said that I was his success story. Basically saying, I have succeeded in the difficult classes that most people cannot accomplish and I achieved those goals. Another great person who helped me succeed is Mark Valchine, I was taking a construction class at William D. Ford School for two years. He told me about his experience about Ferris State, He said” at Ferris there is a whole building dedicated to the Construction Management program, and they have an open ceiling( you could see all the electrical, duct work, piping, etc.).” That made me want to go on tour Ferris State later on. The last person who made me be able to succeed in college was my Dad. My dad graduated from Emu and got his second bachelors in college of techoledgy. He would share his experience at emu and would say to me” Now for every hour of class your supposed to put in three hours of study to retain and learn the material you learned in class’. My dad would help me create a study habit that fits into my schedule since I am working part time at Menards. Looking at classes to take at a university, one should look at the transfer guides at that particular university. First I looked at what classes I can take at Schoolcraft that will transfer to Ferris State. Secondly I then looked at all of the general education requirements in the Construction Management program at Ferris. Thirdly made a list of all the classes I can take at Schoolcraft. I also did the same exact thing for the transfer guides at Emu construction program. Then made the conclusion that Ferris State has a higher requirement of general education classes than emu had. So I then focused more on Ferris State’s requirements and started plucking away at the list of classes to take at Schoolcraft College. Four year universities require weedier classes that are difficult for most students. It clearly establishes who can pass and who can’t. I did have one bad experience taking a weedier class, it was at Washtenaw Community college and I was taking general physics. What ended up happening was the professor I register for decided to drop a week before the semester starts and they ended picking up another professor from Wayne University. Based on looking at all of the other physics professors from Washtenaw, on rate my professor, he was rated at 1.1 out of 5.0. It was the worst winter semester I had out of my two years at a community college. Consequently I will have to take that Physics class again. The last weedier class I thought was difficult was business calculus. I ended up not passing it the first time, my test grades weren’t sufficient to get a 2.0 grade. Then the second time I took the class, I ended up

So it was that time that I started filling out applications for Emu and FSU. So I filled out both applications along with my transcripts. While I waited to hear back from both places, I decided to go tour both universities. So I went to Ferris State University and got on a campus tour. What was nice about the campus tour was that I was able to speak with someone from the construction management program. Next I decided to go tour Emu, this time I didn’t go on a campus tour I decided to walk the campus and get a feel of it. What was really cool was that the student center looks over a lake with a bridge on it. A week later I got two letters, I was accepted in both Emu and

Many have asked, is there really a difference between community college and a four year university. The answer is, yes, of course because of the smaller classes, academics, and advantages one might receive from a community college experience. Four year colleges, on the other hand, have bigger classes, higher academic standards, and a completely different atmosphere. Community colleges offer more one on one help, because of the class sizes.…

College students not only had to retake the classes, it also wasted their valuable time and money. This problem raised a lot of complaints about the school and even the state representatives. College Is Not the Key to Success In College is a Waste of Time and Money by Caroline Bird she explains how college was a good place for a few kids that were drawn to their academic work, but now it is stupid for kids to go to college when all they are doing is wasting their time and money. Bird is right, the only reason they go to college is to make their parents happy not for the education part. She explains that young adults in college are sad, mostly because they are just thrown into the real world without knowing what is going to happen next. They do not know what is best for them so they think going to college will help them get a better job in the long run. Most teachers, engineers, and even nurses said they do not use what they…

The website college view gives us some sort of estimate on a four year institution “The College Board reports that the avenge cost of one year of in-state tuition and fees at a public four year school is $8,655. Tack on another $9,205 in room and board costs you’re looking at an average yearly bill of $17,860.” With that information about a four year institution students end up paying all their four years the price of 71,440 that is just an estimate that I just made because there are some schools that do not require students to stay there all the four years just the first year. But then the other thing is the transportation plays a big part of these because if they want to look for a cheaper spot to live so they could save out some money.…

The problem was that because I was applying to many colleges that meant there were more EOP applications and because I had so much on my plate, I decided I would do the EOP applications for the schools I would see myself going to. In other words, CSUN wasn’t on that list therefore, it was hard for me to squish another application into my time, especially when I was not only dealing with Leadership or Yearbook but also AP classes. Honestly, I wasn’t confused during the application process I was more like overwhelmed. When my counselor from Upward Bound who was a CSUN alumni stated how great the EOP program was in CSUN compared to the rest of the Cal states and how important it is to not only apply to the schools you want to go to but the schools that will actually help you in your academic career. When the deadlines approached and I was still working on my personal statements for the UC’s those were times when I just wanted to give up because I felt like I didn’t have enough time to answer the questions the way I wanted to.…

Every student has a different reason for why they choose to attend college. In “What is the Point of College?” written by Kwame Anthony Appiah, he identifies two psychological ideologies of why students attend college, which he calls “Utopia U” and “Utility U.” . Students will either psychologically go to a Utopian University or Utility University, though it all depends on their reasoning to why they are attending college. If one attends a Utopia UniveristyUniversity it would mean they are going for their personal investment, and if they attend a Utility University they are going as a financial investment. While attending college, it is vital to use these two reasoning, Utopia and Utility U as motivation to get your degree.…
