There I met with a graduate of the school whom I had become friends with through sports. He informed me of a new program in the Ocean County Vocational Technical School Program, and what they were offering was exactly what I wanted to go into as a career. Once accepted into the program, I realized that I was the only student from Barnegat in my specific program. This only motivated me to work harder to gain positive recognition for the school. As well as just academics, I took part in the SkillsUSA competition and in the state level competition, my team and I received silver medals.…

It is also the scene in the opening paragraph of my book that connects my family history with my professional ambitions. My personal story inspires my academic hopes of becoming a lawyer who fights for the underprivileged and helps create access to educational opportunities for them. On a sweltering summer day in the City of Atlanta or the “ATL” as it is affectionately known today, I visited my best friend while he visited his father for the summer. That day I remember vividly because as soon as we stepped outside of the airport to take the “MARTA” train, I began to sweat profusely. Anyone that has been to Atlanta during the summer knows it is incredibly humid there. A week earlier I had seen my friend, and we planned out what we were going to do that week I visited. I knew I wanted to visit Spellman College, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University, and Morris Brown College, but before I could visit the Atlanta University Center or the “AUC” as it is called to the locals, I felt compelled to visit the grave site of one of the most influential human being to walk this earth.…

For all of my life, building close relationships has been the key to my success. I form relationships successfully in a small, comfortable setting. In school, classrooms are an accessible way for myself to accomplish this with my teacher. For every teacher I was close to, the class I had with them was my top class. One of the main reasons I chose Clarkson College was because I admired it was a private college with a limited student to teacher ratio.…

By the time the real climb had started my legs were already cramping.…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

I entered the Holmdel school system when I was three years old. In my young years, I was a very shy person; I wasn’t one to hang out with my classmates outside of school, or connect with new friends in general. Despite my early willingness to seek solitude and reluctance to meet people, my school became a friendly community for me. I can comfortably say that I’m a better person because of the peers I grew up around, the teachers I learned from, and the parents that cared for me. My adolescent interest for computers came out of those people - the friends who introduced me to video games, the instructors who programmed in their spare time, and the father who came from a technological background himself.…
