Forensic Scientist helps investigate crimes by collecting and analyzing crime scene evidence (Occupational Outlook Handbook). The scientist can have a focus of the crime scene or laboratory work. Forensic scientist needs some knowledge in writing for the lab reports needed after an investigation. This work environment interested me as a begin high school being in a program from the Chattanooga Police Department. In the program, we learned the lifestyle of the officers and everyday scenarios they had to complete. That program made me think deeper into the investigation of a crime and how was it handle. I felt that becoming part of forensic it would be a way of helping others by solving these unknown crimes. In addition, another factor from this …show more content…
Forensic scientist is a team job and having social skills is a big factor, “some technicians have to work outside all types of weather conditions, and spend long time in laboratories. They often work in groups or teams with specialist and either law enforcement.”(OOH) There are important qualities to bring to the table to become a forensic scientist, communication, critical-thinking, and math and science skills being some of the main ones. Forensic Scientists usually receive a bachelor’s degree in a natural science, such as chemistry or biology. Then following the degree you are required on the job training for both ones whom investigate grime scenes and those who work in labs. (OOH) According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the training has to be receiving before working on crime scenes independently. The new investigators would shadow the experienced ones. They often learn proper procedures and methods to collect and document evidence. The scientist may have to pass an exam of be approved by the lab before they perform alone or testify in a court. In college, Chemistry 3700 is a higher chemistry more related to the forensic science area. Then when I enter a lab, all be needed are the hands on experience and not the knowledge of forensic investigation. While being at Austin Peay I would like to be involved in undergraduate research and Greek life. According to the, “What Can I Do with this Major?” Attaining proficiency in writing and understanding scientific reports is a factor to achieving a career in forensic. These two organizations both give me an ability to connect with others and work outside of my comfort zone. The research will give me practice of coming up with an idea and in the ending writing a scholarly report over it. Students interested in forensic science should note that countless undergraduate majors, minors, and concentrations might lead to work in this field. The coursework is primarily science-based. Students pursuing this path should plan to complete numerous classes in chemistry and biology (WCIDWTM). It Beware of inaccuracies of the forensic science field as portrayed on television.
