It is generally observed that, children from well educated, financially stable and loving families are very confident, well-nourished and are able to develop life skills much comfortably.
The external factors which contribute towards child and young people’s development are
Family background: children and young people’s development is contributed by the support, love and encouragement they get from their parents and close family members. Positive interactions with family members develops communicational skills like listening to others, taking turns to speak. Siblings provide more opportunities of communication, care and share. Parents can provide all required resources which enhances their development. Outings, going on holidays, buying books and toys, providing healthy, fresh, nutritious food stimulates overall development. While poverty and deprivation and lack of resources does have stressful effect on growth and development. Parent’s unemployment: Work is the most important route out of low income. But the consequences of being unemployed are wider than lack of money. It can contribute to ill-health, frustration and lack of opportunities. For e.g. In some countries where education is not free children from poor families lack the opportunity of going to school or getting education.
Social class: School where child studies, house where child lives, neighbourhood: all directly affect child’s quality of life and development. If it does not provide proper care, then it could lead to a range of physical and mental health problems. Most deprived areas suffer from a combination of poor housing, high rates of crime, unemployment, poor health, lack of education and family
